what does it mean when my radio says safe and i cant turn it on properly please
-
It means that the security code has been entered wrongly too many times and the radio is locked - or 'safe'.
Have a look in the owners manual for instructions on how to rectify to your particular radio. And you will need the car pass as that has the security code printed on it. :y

Not quite - but the radio is indeed looking for a code though.
If the display continually shows "SAFE" and a number less than "10" then the unit may be codelocked and will need to be left switched on up for up to two hours to reset before another code entry attempt is possible. If it does not reset after this time, or the display shows "SAFE" with no number to the left, then you are not following the correct code entry procedure, and your ignition has not been switched on.

You can order the "carpass" for your car from VX, expect to pay between £18-40. This will give you the radio & key codes, but radio code will be for the unit fitted @ production so not necessarily the unit you have fitted at present. Or for around £25 Dave DND can decode it for you

I can certainly help you there
