Can anyone help me, I would like to convert my 02 3.2 Elite to a manual, I have all the parts (I hope :o) Can anyone help??
I'm willing to pay for the work and drive the car to them, I'm going away for 2-3 months at the end of this month and would be willing to leave the car with them and collect when I get back!!
Let me know!!

If someone does volunteer, they could end up with a queue forming ;D ;D

Hi Jim,
If I can have the car for that sort of time, no worries. Need to wait for it to get warmer, though!! And of course, I'll have to embark on a couple of "test runs" afterwards, to ensure all is as it should be.. ;D ;D ;D

Hi James, well the car is actually in Gloucester, I'm departing the UK in two weeks time for approx 2.5 months, so you can have the car whilst I'm away.

Sure do
It's not based near Quedgeley is it? ::)

At the risk of 'hijacking' the thread, is the conversion worth it? What are the main pros and cons?

Depends if you prefer driving a manual to an auto,although iirc Jim has a selection of autos to choose from anyway. Main advantage from a practical viewpoint is improved fuel consumption - probably around 15% I would guess.
If I knew I was keeping my car long term I would probably do it for the MPG gains.

pros
less consumption, better acceleration, full control on the car.. besides 5 gears instead of 4..
and no more creeping (waiting the box to lock up) until 80 km/hr..
cons
required change of clutch kit depending on your driving style (and dual mass flywheels not cheap if original preferred although rarely creates problem) also dmf kit more pricey..
no more relax driving in city traffic..
for me manual everyday :) :y

Just let me know if this falls through.
I'm willing and able - and will have all the time in the world from the end of Feb.
this would be my 10th autoectomy by the way !

Dazzle is doing mine for me while I am away this summer :y
Pink crocs t-shirt in a gold car?! Oh matron! :D

It's not a 100% done deal... we are just chatting logistics.
If anyone else desperately wants to do it, I have no objections! Just kinda made sense with Jim and I being around the corner from each other!
Cheers,
James

It is tempting I have to admit. I know serek is currently selling a full kit which gives a guide price for the equipment, but I imagine it is a complicated and timely procedure? And who else could you ask to do it but a fellow OOF member, who you can at least trust :y
As Albs suggested, it'll be worth it if keeping the car, which I intend to. I guess I'll have to add it to my wish list, but it's not at the top!

...less to go wrong, more control of gears, faster gearchanges dependant on driver, more gears to be in the power band more, engine brake more easily, be in the gear you want when you want

terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired ..................... ::) ::) ::) ::)
Why would you want more pedals than feet in a car that weighs 1700kgs? Hardly the car that you'd choose for the Lombard RAC rally.
I bit my tongue for as long as I could! ::) ::) ;D ;D :y

I have done it all in a day before, but it's hard going.
I leave work on a VR scheme at the end of Feb, so am looking for some stuff to keep me entertained for a while - this would be right up my street.

after current economic conditions arise , I also decided to keep omega.. (before I was planning to sell both cars and go to the dark side but gave up ) .. so invested serious money on it.. , manual conversion, engine overhaul , port polish etc etc.. so its been 7 years I'm working on it, but still cant finish all my plans.. must admit manual conversion makes omega a different car ;) so imo definitely worth it.. :y
