Title: Checking an alternator
Post by: PSABIN8951 on 07 February 2012, 22:34:46
Does anyone know how to check out an alternator for correct operation off the car?
Ive just fitted a replacement from a scrappy to get car going but i think looking at it now old one only needed internal contact cleaning but i dont want to refit only to find its still knackered.
Only reason id like to change is scrappy one has a noisy bearing (fussy i know)

If you take it to an auto electricians or even a scrapyard they will often have a test rig that spins them over on a motor and checks output.
