I run mine on 5W/40 fully synthetic all year round but it's only a 4 pot. I don't think I would be happy using a thinner oil in a V6 tbh :-\

I think the fully syn has gone up recently, hasn't it :( It cost me £43 for 20L a year ago, and £58 last weekend. Boo.

I'm almost tempted to get the semi syn next time..

It's the specified grade for the 2.6 and 3.2. High mileage engines that are starting to use oil might be better off on the 10w40.

It might start off thinner but I bet it stays in grade much better than the 10w40. ;)

may be it complained and you didnt hear  ;D  you may use, but those engines are not designed to usee with those oils.. there were long debates on here and other forums I still remember..

;D ;D    seriously , when temperatures in summer exceed 35-40 celcius , the engine noise changed to a very different tone that disturbed me.. because I also tried those oils because of curiosity..

So as said, dexos2 will be absolutely fine. Especially in Bishop Aukland. :)

GM went to the 5W30 fully synthetic oils late in the production life of the Omega to extend the service intervals. So that oil is perfectly suited.

However, I like to oil service the car well within the old service interval, so change the oil every 3-4k, and therefore the extra cost over 10W40 semi is not worthwhile, IMHO.  I am of the opinion that I'd rather change the oil more regularly with a cheaper (but still very good quality) oil, rather than less often using an expensive premium oil.

"5W-30 Pros and Cons
  • The pros of 5W-30: It is best for operating in cold climates, and it tends to give slightly better engine protection. The cons of 5W-30: It might not be suitable for vehicles that operate in hot climates, and it is not the best option for vehicles that are involved in frequent city driving (stop and go) or vehicles that frequently haul heavy loads
