Hi guys.
Not sure if I can even ask this here but I'm after a little help. I have some new shock absorbers to be fitted to the front of the car, they're Koni adjustable ones that require using the old shock to fit. I've been to three garages so far and none of them will touch them. I've tried some specilist garages but because I didn't buy them from them, they won't fit them which is a tad annoying! The only one that will has been Demon Tweeks in Wrexham but they wanted nearly £200 to do it. With the head gasket going, the cost of a head skim etc I just don't have that kind of cash floating round, but at the same point I've been told that both front shocks are weeping.
Is there anyone on here that knows of someone ideally close to the Wirral that will? Or a member willing to help me out? I'd do it myself but I haven't done it before and I don't have anywhere near enough tools.

I was going to until I saw the price of them, the local dealer wanted about £70 more per shock than the Koni ones. After fitting lowering springs (again, considerably cheaper than standard VX ones and suspension is not something I'd use cheap parts on) I was concerned about the extra wear it would put on the standard shocks too.

Had an idea. There's nothing to stop me buying some old and knackered shocks from a 2.2 (or other varient if they're the same) and fitting the new shocks into those, then throwing them on the car. That would make life easier.
Off to Ebay!

You need to get Trade Club Access - front shocks barely cost £70 ;)

On another tangent, are replacing shocks as easy the maintenance guide suggests? Looks very simple.
I ask as the rear shocks had to be replaced a couple months ago for the MOT; my brother's fault but that's another story!
Out of convenience I let the garage fit some pattern ones, and to be honest they're awful and no where near as good as the OEM items. So as they're relatively inexpensive on TC I'll do them myself when it warms up a bit provided it's an easy job.

As The Boy says, they're really dead easy. 16mm nut on the inside of the boot & a 22 or 24mm bolt at the bottom of the shocker (plus air lines if an Elite with S/L)

the front dampers require the complete strut to be removed, spring compressors to compress the spring to allow the strut to be dismantled. ;)
