Well, first off SWMBO had to get the cat to the vets for an operation at 8am. This involved removing her food last night and water at 06:00... Nearly broke our hearts ::)
Then we get a call a little after 10am, the pre-anaesthetic blood tests reveal signs of Kidney Failure :'( Best suggestion was to put her on IV fluids for 12-24 hours to see if it improves, then do the op tomorrow. Bill now goes from £170ish to about £300 ::) They started talking about "Increased risk" for the anaesthetic so we popped in to see her (just in case) and the sight near on broke our hearts :'( She's got a pretty pink bandage on her front leg to keep the IV in and is looking confused. She's 14-15 years old and the vets always question it as she looks so fit and healthy, but a real part of the family and the house feels completely empty without her :( We've never spent the night in the house without her (in 7 years) and she's not stayed away from the house overnight in that time either ::)
Then we get onto the other problem... The oven packed in last night so we trekked off to our local Bennetts Electrical and started looking. Ended up with a new oven and a new induction hob as her old halogen one was cracked. A mere £720 :o Was a pretty good deal though as the hob was meant to be £550 and the oven £350, plus we've got it on an interest free, pay nothing for a year deal :y Had to have the display ones to take them away today but I don't mind that when we can do a decent deal :y
Get home and rip the old ones out, which was a doddle, then offer in the new hob... Ar$e... The hole was about 1.5mm too small ::) Anyway... All fitted and working now :y :y But my back's giving me some grief! :'( :'(
-
:( hows the cat it not nice when there ill keep your chinup :)
-
Sorry to hear of your woes Paul, especially your beloved pet :( Our dogs are as much loved as our kids & it's always 'nails bitten to elbows' when they are ill! On the other issue, our range oven works but swmbo has threatened to launch it through the kitchen window more times than it's turned out a perfect cake! ;D ;D
I hope your dear cat is 'feline' better soon :y
-
Yep, so hard when you can't do anything to help the little animals we treat as family ::) SWMBO took a picture so I'll try and dig it out ::)
Of course, to add insult to injury, when I needed to trim the hole in the worktop I couldn't find any of the tools I wanted ::) Ended up using an angle grinder, screwdriver, chainsaw file and some other random items :-[ ::) Went in though and a happy(ish) Mrs LD is in the kitchen cooking dinner :y :y
-
hmmmm cats and cookers, think there is a joke there somewhere ;) ;)
but hope your cat gets better and the hob stays put :y

Christ,I saw chainsaw before I saw "file "written after it and thought that was a bit extreme :D :D ;D
Hope you cat pulls through ok,broke our hearts when we lost ours a year or so ago,got a kitten now though so all is good :y

Hoping for good news for you....
I know when we went through similar, it didnt go too well as you know.

Not convinced we'll get great news either :'( :-\
But finger's crossed :y :y

Don't give a stuff about the cooker, but know Mrs LD will be in a mess if the moggy doesn't perk up :'(
Actually, I lied about the cooker, does she need someone to test that the cakes are up to scratch?
-
Fingers crossed for you and cakey :(
I wish I could send over my Monty Python collection to help cheer you up. It's picking me up out my doldrums :y

She's already a mess and the likely outcome is that the moggy will come home and be fine until the Kidneys fail completely :'(
As for the cakes... Not sure, but dinner was ready in record time :y :y

I think my stupid moggie has had about 90 lives, stupid bloody thing. But, then again, my stupid moggie hasn't got all its dogs on one lead, if that translates to Turkish...

Without doubt, that's upsetting news about your little companion - I do hope that she gets through this and comes back to a home where she is obviously loved and cherished.
It's gratifying to see how so called 'dumb animals' can associate so well with their human friends to form such a close bond - furthermore, it's not only a privilege but it's also a humbling experience to have such trust so demonstrably shown towards us by any creature.
We have much to learn from such association.
-
Thats terrible news about the cooker......I hope the new one is not a Bosch....

Actually, Bosch induction hob and oven ::) Right price at the time (and the only viable option for immediate delivery) ::)

Indeed. As some here know, she is our little Princess and gets spoilt rotten ::) I even managed to train her to sit on command :y

Wont show her pic to holly dog...as she likes to chase them....she doesnt like cats ::)

I understand fully how you and your wife are feeling about your cat Paul and hope that all will be OK and she makes a full and speedy recovery .
We have a 13 year old Snow Leopard that has just underwent removal of a tumour and at the same time was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease. So far with the help of a special diet he is putting on weight and seems to be getting over it but we fear a return of the problem.
It's difficult for a non cat owner to understand the ambience that a loved cat gives to a household but I certainly do so good luck to you and especially her .
Keep us posted on her recovery. :y
Don
-
Thanks Don :y
She's always been a "Petite" cat and the vets were convinced there was nothing wrong with her until the blood and urine tests were done this morning. Looked at the "Check list" for symptoms earlier and she doesn't show any of them ::)
Pleased to hear your moggy is making a good recovery :y I'm sure ours will be fine but it's still a worry ::) House feels very strange without her here tonight :(
-
All the best for the cat and hope shes home soon , would be lost without our 2 cats one of which is 10 months old ...little monkey climbing the curtains and gets us up at 3am biting out feet :y

Best of luck with little one. Having met her, she is a real charmer. Inquisitive and affectionate. :-*
Similar experience re Bosch group ovens. They also make Siemens and neff. Both cook round flat items more at the back than the front. Just have to set a timer to turn the item half way through.

It certainly will be! Over £100 for IV fluids overnight :o
I always said that expensive vets bills wouldn't happen with her and that I wouldn't pay more than a couple of hundred pounds for treatment ::) That went out the window yesterday! "Yes, do what is best for her" ::) ;D
Been a really strange night... Neither of us slept well because there was someone missing ::)

Hope the moggie pulls through OK, LD. :(

This is going to need careful research, I can see. I wouldn't want you to tackle that without help, especially with a poorly cat to take care of. Empty cake tin in the post. :y

You know my address. 1st class is best, don't want them going off in the post :P
I remember the days when first class post was on your mat the morning (before 8am) after it had been posted, does it still work that way where you are? :o
Around here it seems to be:
1st class = when we can be bothered
2nd class = if we can be bothered
@ LD,
Glad to hear your cat is on the mend, and I know just how easy it is to get attached to what some people regard as nothing more than a "dumb animal".
I still remember with vivid clarity the day when my cat was 15 (same age as me) and it developed liver & kidney problems. The vets advice was to put it down as it had pretty much had it's lifespan, and any treatment would simply prolong the inevitable.
While I'm normally quite a cold bastard where emotion is concerned (until I get to know someone), that hit me quite hard as I'd had that cat from day one.
The real bitch though was my old man making me take it to the vets so the deed could be done. I don't know whether he made me do it to "toughen" me up or something, but if that was his plan then it failed dismally because I ended up resenting him for quite a while afterwards for making me kill my own cat (at least that was how I saw it then).
Ironically a few years later I fell in with the wrong group of people and became the "real" man he had wanted me to be for years (I joined a motorcycle club), he wasn't too impressed however when he realised that early morning alarm calls (courtesy of whichever police force wanted us at the time) were part & parcel of me being the "man" he so desperately wanted to see ;D ;D
No amount of money can ever replace your cat, but if money is the only solution to her staying alive then it doesn't matter what you spend IMO as they are still part of the family.
Hell, if the truth be known I'd be more likely to trust an animal than a human being when meeting either for the first time.......although that's probably because animals (unlike humans) don't sit there and think of different ways to f**k each over.
-
Each other, perhaps not, but you know your cat is always plotting your demise..

;D
(Kidding, of course, I love cats - but the picture amused me)
-
Any news on your pussy LD? ???
-
Each other, perhaps not, but you know your cat is always plotting your demise......snipped
Every single one of those examples is spot on ;D ;D

After a long and tense wait this morning I got a call from the vets about half an hour ago. All went well and she's coming home tonight :y
I'm sure she'll be feeling very sorry for herself but at least we'll have her home :y
I'll update again later once SWMBO has collected her and spoken with the vet :y
Thanks for the support!
As for the oven... I'll do some "Quality Control" tests during the week I expect ::)

Great , pat on the head from me ...sleep well :y

The local posties here are actually pretty good TBH. Like everywhere, one delivery a day (excluding parcels, as they come on van), but generally next day for 1st class, and a couple of days for 2nd. Can't complain about the service we get here (and blondie is pretty fit, and has a nice smile ::))

I discovered my infra red heat gun in a drawer about a week ago. It had been there for a year, at a guess. Picked it up and the cat was instantly at my side, looking all over the room. Wondered what was up until I remembered that it had a laser pointer built in. Amazing what they remember whilst giving the impression that they are daft as a brush most of the time. ;D

Nice one LD,glad all is well :y :y

A €1 laser pointer, and £2.59 for 100 LR41 batteries is the best £3.50 I ever spent on the cat. But now she is obsessed with it, all over me when I get in, wanting to play.

I was dreading getting to the end of that thread in case............well, you know. Glad the moggie is back home. :y
We only got our dog six months ago (seems like she's always lived here). I spend every waking hour with her and she has become a very big part of my life. However, the roles are reversed here. She is only nine months old and it's even money that I'll have to be put down before her. ;D

We can live in hope. :y

First one went in the food and she wolfed it down :y 2nd and 3rd went in the food and she ate around it and left it ::)
So now it's with a Pet Piller as you have... Fortunately she's not too bad, but she knows that if I look for her at that time of the day it's tablet time and runs and hides ::) ::)
I'm making an effort to pick her up for cuddles frequently throughout the day so she doesn't think that every time I pick her up it's for tablets ;)
She still curled up with me for a cuddle all night last night though :y :y

Tablets with our two. Crush the tablet into powder, or open the capsule, onto a square of sliced ham or turkey etc. Roll it up, brake off into manageable mouthfuls and feed to cat.
Never fails. Although Maisy, being smarter of our two, knows treats are coming after tablets, so is quite happy to just swallow the tablets neat usually. :)

With Picks, we get a chunk of chicken, cut a slice in it, and hide tablet in there. She normally eats it then, although you have to remember, she ain't the brightest spark in the fire....

Yep, tried that too ::) ::)
Far easier to shove it down her throat and then feed her straight afterwards :D

Our old cat used to be very skilled at keeping them tucked in the side of his cheeks and then disposing of them behind the sofa when no-one was looking. That was after he had taken most of the skin off my hands trying to get the things in his mouth in the first place.Thouroughly objectionable old bugger he was. ::)

one of our males is the biggest problem.. even 2 persons with thickest welding gloves, its impossibel to give him antibiotics either drug form or in milk( and we tried even sweetest for babies) .. but grown outside then came to us.. and I'm fed up paying money to veterinary for him.. still survives though.. :(

Thoughts with you, a hug to the ever lovely Emma, your kitchen & hoping for some feline recovery. It may sound silly to some but the loss of a pet can be as devastating as any other loss.
That's how much we love them! Chin up bud. Guy. :y

Apart from a slight change in personality, probably a side effect from the tablets, she's fine (thankfully!) and the recommendation is to just change her diet from dry to wet food. This should prolong her time with us as much as possible :y A little tinterweb research and I've found that kidney failure is very common and rarely a serious issue for several years :y

What's the significance of wet/dry food? :-\

I find prawns are the answer... yet to find a cat refuse a prawn with a table concealed within...

in my dogs it the difference between smelly farts and not lol

She was on dry food (as recommended previously) to help keep her teeth in good order. The wet food is supposed to aid keeping her fluid levels up as dry food can dehydrate a bit.
She now gets a pouch morning and night (or fish/chicken) and dry food available as additional "snack" food all the time ::)

We put tablets in a bit of cheese :y

bloody hell .. thats a big prawn ..... :)

She's been back to the vets for a check up this morning. She's put on 200g in 5 days :o
They are very happy and think that the 24 hours of fluids and change of diet may have kick started her kidneys, although that is pure conjecture as they don't see the point in taking more bloods :y Generally very happy with the progress though :y :y
And they were very pleased to see her again ::)
