First of all, sorry if this is a pearoast, but I just wanted to ask how come a seller or someone wanting to post a wanted ad has to have 250 posts?
I understand that forums have to guard against spammers, fraudsters and the like, but 250 posts is a heck of a lot to some folk. I've been registered on R-R for about 6 years, but only made about 5 or 600 posts. Likewise I've been on the OMOC forum since its inception but only made around 1000 posts.
I know some folk spend a lot of time on forums, especially those who are involved in running them (sterling job they do too). But for us mere occasional posters it's pretty frustrating and makes life tough. Also, it's limiting opportunities to anyone looking to buy from those people, or for low posters to reply to wanted ads and help the spirit of these forums along.
Is there any thoughts to look at the limit, or is there a way I can get an ad up on the forum and would I be able to reply to it?
Cheers muchly!

Wanted ad's are exempt, as per the guidelines.
Just post a wanted ad in test, and it will be moved, and you will be able to reply to it :y
Its sales that we DO NOT allow, due to far too many people being scammed in the past.
There is a cost to running this site, we are not the free ad's etc
We let established contributors to the site, sell, and noone else.
-
Cheers for the reply. I appreciate there is a cost to running the site. I'm sure that folk would be happy to make a donation in return for being able to list a sale.
I struggled replying to a wanted ad that a member had posted and had to pm him.
I have seen similar schemes in place on various other forums, but never set at such a high level.
-
Ahh yes, you are not able to reply to others wanted ads....as you dont have post count.
You are welcome to pm people to offer your parts....but dont be offended if people wont deal as you are seen as an unknown. Lots of people have been bitten.
Basically, anyone can sign up, offer parts, take cash, and run, supplying nothing.
Established members, through our experience, are less likely to do this.
Its a shame everyone ends up tarred with the same brush, but much money has been lost :(
-
I understand that. Minority ruin it for everyone. as in everything.
Wasn't so much the parts (got to have a good sort out yet) but a car. In which case it would need collecting anyway!
Rules are rules and happy to abide by them. It is one of the friendlier forums I've been on so no grumbles from me! :y

Hey Mojo, you can collect 250 posts sooner than you think if talk with others. I bravely suggest using of General Discusson if you don't have any problem with your miggy. Know off your possible business partners before striking into something - I'm sure it won't become your disadvantage! Good luck, bud ! :y

250 posts does imply a member is prepared to stick around and build a reputation. 250 won't take long when you get into it. :)
-
250 does indeed imply a memner is likely to stick around. So does 50 though. It's certainly not someone who joins jut to sell a car.
A lot of people on other forums who have a wealth of knowledge aren't necessarily those who are on there every day or replying to every thread.
As I said though, rules is rules and all that.
-
;D you may find that won't work so well. :-X ::)
-
Yep, admins aren't daft and have been around long enough to know all the tricks in the book on how to bump your post count up. I dare say one of them will be getting there chopper out ::)

Just a thought on the subject. As the site knows how long I spend on it, is it not possible to implement a lower post count allied to length of membership ? Which might help with people who are not compulsive posters..... :-\
-
i dont think you can change the min post count for posting for individual members, this has been proven to work a couple times recently with members being ripped off through pm sales, try ebay ;) :y

No, and neither would we want to.
length of membership proves nothing. building up a reputation is what its about.
