i had a little prang in the snow on feb 4th..my car will be written off no doubt as a wing and bonet from vauxhall is £600 plus painting and fitting...approx value of my car is £1500 so 60% of value is £900 ..i have 6 years no claims that is protected..should i claim and have the accident against me for next 5 years renewals
-
was it your fault? if it was, then i wouldnt recomed as insurance prices are alreday too high
-
yes my fault totally..and only me involved..well me and a sign post
-
Why not just buy second hand wing and bonnet and bolt them on ?

:y :y :y I would do this! My guess is no worth forcing the insurance company to pay. Although I'm living in Hungary the main rules in connection with insurancies are the same. If it's your faulty you should get repaired. Good luck, bud! :y

nah i wouldnt claim. get the bits & sort it yourself. depends how bad of course. you should be able to source all the bits you need from here.

Just weigh up the pros and cons, financially, as well as your time against expenditure in money. You'll need to spend time sourcing the parts, then getting them sprayed, then fit them - not accounting for any unforeseens.
What is the real effect of claiming against having a proper repair done by a bodyshop with all things considered

the amount that your premium will go up.

If your lucky enough to find a wing and bonnet in the right colour - £75 tops, job jobbed. :y
Otherwise, add a couple of hundred for spraying I suppose. :-\
-
But remember that you may well get the bill for the sign if the accident was witnessed (even on camera)/reported ;)
-
I'd wait for the right colour wing & bonnet to turn up & replace them without claiming on my policy. :y :y
But of course you'd have to be a good boy & inform your insurance company anyway .............. ::) ::) ::)

Nope, I wouldn't. Fix it myself and leave the ins. company out of it. :-X

This prang? http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=99240.msg1242711#msg1242711
Not sure I'd want to repair that - at least I'd want to have a damned good look at the inner wing and if that's moved, write it off. It looks, to me, like it's almost certainly going to have moved the inner wing, possibly the upper suspension mounting point..
-
yep thats the prang....insurance already know as they recovered the car...haven't managed to open the bonnet yet to look at inner wing as it's jammed shut, even tried with a crowbar :-[

There's someone close to me Karl that has a facelift bonnet in Star Silver, he swapped it because of stone chips to the front and I dont think he wants anything for it ;)

Sorry - didn't make it clear. I meant the cost of claiming against a DIY job, but not purely in terms of money
DIY has the potential to bring a lot of aggro with it. You need to source, collect (may or may not be local) and pay for the parts. Maybe a respray, or a touch-up needed.
Other damage not initially seen, such as inner wing. Then doing the work - maybe enlisting help from friends or OOF members and fitting the time in.
All I am saying it is sometimes, and not only with cars, more viable to pay a bit more in the present moment, to eradicate all these variables and be relatively hassle free, whilst still having some time to do other things in life. Everybody is always saying how there are not enough hours in the day.
I recently had a fuel sorted by a garage rather than doing myself. By the time I would travelled to get the pieces, lifted car, dropped tank, replaced lines, got covered in petrol bla bla, it made far more sense to pay a garage the relatively small amount to do it.

I think thats going to be more than a wing and bonnet, inner wing at least plus front panel may well be bent by the impact. Anything is fixable with enough time and effort though :y
