Title: 2.0 cam covers, ?
Post by: omegod on 19 February 2012, 15:00:48
I know the generic V6 cam cover gaskets are crap but does this carry over to the 2.0/2.2 ones? If so how much are they from VX?

Cheers,

I've got a genuine 2.0 one here, part number 90 501 944.  You can have it for nowt if you want it, but I should say that it has been used, briefly, about 2½ years ago.  Was only on the car a few weeks before camcover had to come off again for other reasons, and I wasn't sure whether I could re-use it at the time , so I got another.

It appears to be exactly 'as new' in condition, consistency and colour of liquorice.  Obviously it's a slight gamble to use this instead of a brand new one, but it also seems a shame to chuck it out. I would definitely have re-used it if I'd decided to fix the car rather than scrap it this weekend.

PM me with an address if you want it.

I found that there is a considerable differance in diameter between OEM and ( some perhaps ) aftermarket ones.
I did mine recently and used one I bought off a supplier on E bay that I have used many times.
When I fitted them I did notice that the new one seemed to be slightly smaller than the old one but put that down to swelling on contact with oil.
It refused to seal       >:(
I then got a genuine GM gasket and as said it was noticably bigger .
It sealed       :y
OEM every time .
