Title: Omega 3 no display on climate control board
Post by: snowball on 20 February 2012, 18:21:24
Hi
I have a Vauxhall Omega 3 and the climate control board is completely blank and as a result the temperature / air con doesnt work and neither do the window defrost front and back , and oddly enough the cigarette lighter which is not in that panel but could be a conicendence
The radio works and so do the heated seats / hazard indicators etc
I took it to Vauxhall and there were very unsure about what the problem was as they had not seen this problem before - they  siad that the control panel probably needed replacing but the diagnostic machine didnt show any errors so  I thought I would see if anyone on this site has any ideas

Whats an Omega 3?  I assume you mean Omega-B Facelift. Once you confirm, I'll look at wiring diagramds :)

As an aside, there were only 2 Omegas - Omega-A (branded Carlton in UK) and Omega-B (branded Omega in UK). Some people incorrectly refer to Facelifted Omega-B as Omega-C, which is wrong.

Does the computer display just right of centre air vents work?

Does the ciggy lighter work?

the best way I can describe is that the top section between the two knobs that control the temperature for either side of the car alll the way across it totally blank
The centre section with the radio and the hazard indicator works / boot etc works
The cigarette lighter doesnt.
Not sure if this helps but It was working on a long journey and I think up to the time I reached my destination as I am sure that I would have noticed due to the temperature outside if it wasnt but the next day it was completely blank - I had my phone plugged into the cigarrette lighter and removed it when I reached my destination - could a wire have come loose as a result of me unplugging the phone charger

fuse is ok but the display is blank - nothing works on that panel section - tried reset holding down two buttons down as well but that didnt work either

OK, so we dig a little deeper then.

Turn Ign key to II, then back to 0 but do NOT remove key. Radio should still be on, along with computer display.

Open drivers door. Do you get a audiable warning?

Yes there is an audible noise - as it is now dark noticed the middle section presumably a back light behind the knobs etc is lit but only on the middle section - htere is no back light either on the top section

Would F33 have any bearing on illumination of CC panel :-\

OK, F14 aside, I can't see anything common between the knackered ciggy lighter and the ECC (Climate Control) Panel.

Based on that, I'd suggest trying a replacement. Bit fiddly to change. I imagine around £20 should bag a 2nd hand one, although usually have faded buttons.  I may even have one here which you could have gratis if I could get it to you (Middlesex a bit far to deliver).  Could also try Steve @ Omegaparts near Heathrow (mention OOF for discount), or one of the breakers on this site.

Hope that helps.

Unless anyone else has any bright ideas at this stage?

I reckon that only does the fan....   ....but certainly worth checking...

Just to clarify is that £20 to replace the climate control panel as Vauxhall wanted £245 plus VAT and they didnt seem confident that it was that which is why I thought I would ask you as you helped in the past

Yeah, for a 2nd hand one.  Once you know for definate it was that, then its up to you if you want to buy a brand new one.  But in this situation, I wouldn't spend £300 on a part that may or may not be the fault.

Its possibly one of the 2 plugs has come loose, but its such a sod to get to it, I'd want a replacement unit to trial once out ;D

I believe so.

As said, I suspect any breakers here would only want £20 for one.  If I can find the one in my garage, you can have it for postage, but I can't look tonight due to a mishap involving a Rover, a Passat, an A5 and a Laguna...

That s even better and willing to pay postage no problem - just let me know tomorrow if you find the part
Do you have any step by step info on how to replace this or is it too complicated for a non mechanic to try - not something I would attempt but thought maybe my husband could but he is no way a mechanic

The climate panel comes away with teh surround, so you only need first couple of steps in that guide that RobG posted.

I'll try to have a look tomorrow if I still have the climate panel :y

Thank you so much Theboy for the kind offer will  wait to hear from you re the panel
Thanks for the step by step RobG will let you know once we get the second hand part how we get on
and didnt say but rE 33 thats the fuse that I asked Vauxhall to oringally test and it was fine then they said only a diagnostic would show what was wrong - but nothing showed as wrong when they used the machine - so then they siad it had to be the climate control but by that time I had lost confidence as well as money !!!

Got the aforementioned CC panel (good working cond. altho' switches are faded) sitting in my (to be scrapped) F/L omega.
If TB doesn't come up with the goods you can have it for £20 + P&P tho' you'll have to give me a couple of days notice so I can get the bugger out.
PM me if interested. :y

I had exactly the same experience after a long journey during which I had pushed the phone charger into the socket awkwardly. The metal pin in the middle of the plug had shorted and blown fuse F14.

Have a closer look at fuse F14. (I initially pulled the wrong fuse.)

Have a good look at the fuse holder & check for signs of overheating

Just a thought is there not a fuse under the bonnet that covers main fuse box feeds (it is just a thought)

Hmmm, the force is working in strange ways tonight. Just had the same thing happened earlier, Sat nav started moaning about batt level cause the rear ciggy has stopped working and a dead climate panel.

So F14 and 33 for tomorrow morning then.
