been looking at this with an eye to putting it back on the road......
chatting to the seller we have a fairly good idea what's up with it so it will need some TLC.
what's a 2.6 CD worth these days with 96,000 and MOT and in good working order?
-
September 2001 :o
Watch the road tax! I'd go for one pre-March 2001. :y

got to be worth a punt jay !! :-?
-
Kevin read my mind. Tax must be a concideration these days.
If he will sell at sensible money, it would be a good buy. Sure looks a nice car though.
-
tax would put me off
-
Didn't you have your eye on another one at some point. In a salvage yard was it ?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but have we decided if pre 2006 cars are going to be the £400+ tax bracket or not ?
Because reading this http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/HowToTaxYourVehicle/DG_10012524 I think it only post 2006 cars which will be paying the really high rate. Please feel free to enlighten me otherwise.

The figures quoted in your link are FOR THIS YEAR ONLY.
The actual rules are in para A97 of the budget document. You need to look at the table A8a in the budget document. That lists the fees due from next year .. and they are much different !!

I'm 100% sure I'm up for 440 quid after 2009.:'( Luckily my tax comes up in January so I've got almost 2 years..
For a car that's right on the borderline, it's got to be a consideration.
If it were a 2003 car, perhaps less of a concern, but if it's a keeper, it'll soon be double the cost to tax as a car 6 months older, and if it's a project, I'd wonder how resale values are going to be hit. :-/
Then again, who can rely on this government to stand by what they've promised? The goal posts will probably have moved by then ;D

well, won the auction, £520 :y
Will be collecting it this week, have no idea what's wrong with it currently, the 'mechanic' who looked at it was speaking to me today, rekoned it was a piston gone, but yet no smoke, oil or water loss :-/

I recall someone mentioned oil pump / low oil pressure problems on 2.6s. :-/
Could just be a stuck lifter perhaps or low oil pressure not filling the lifters properly.
Anyway, looks like a nice car and a good project. :y

bargain fella :y :y
-
Let us all know how you get on with it mate. sounds like a good bargain :y
-
Well at that price you can't really fail! If it's uneconomic to repair the parts on it will fetch more than you paid. :y
-
Bargain :y
You can't lose. Worse case, strip it. But have fun dismantling engine first (no chain tensioners to attack you ;D)
-
I've seen complete facelift mirrors go for £100 a side........
-
biggest issue i have currently is getting it transported down to Plymouth
original person has let me down >:( >:( >:(
and i have someone looking at the Elite on the weekend as well :-/
-
Ohhhhh...now that looks nice.
-
Well it should be in my mates garage on Friday evening, so we will have a looky then.
i am not sure about it yet, i have bought it without looking so its a bit of a flyer, that said if it is a pile of junk then it gets broken.
just one Q, what would the aerial be for on the roof, it looks factory fit?
-
Wow what a bargin, you could never loose on that, hope it turns out not to be to major for you. Fingers crossed. :y

Dog and Bone, which means it'll be prewired making adding carkit easy.
