Hi, my 3.2 is making a continuous noise which seems to be coming from the rear of the car (Tuk, tuk, tuk...). It becomes fainter the quicker you go, but you can still hear it.
I tried jacking the car up then putting into drive and gave a bit of speed and seeing/checking if i can hear exactly where the noise is coming from, but there was no noise. Whilst it was jacked i had a look for anything loose, nothing is loose at all.
After i had look i put new rear shocks in (They needed replacing, as the rear left shock needed replacing), replaced the rear bearings, and front hub and bearings (Just for convenience), and also the propshaft. The only two things that are left back there that i think could make this noise are the Drive Shafts or the Diff itself. I have checked and ensured that the diff is full filled up.
So can anyone please help me?
Thanks
Ninda

does the noise get faster the faster you go if it does check the tyres for stones in the tread :y
-
If it changes on speed, pull the handbrake gently up to see if it's the shoes come loose, or gently apply the footbrake to see if the noise goes, it may be the pads rattling......
-
Hoofing it does but im certain there is no Stones in the tyre tread
Dad1uk, that may be it, but the pads are new and seem ok to me, surely this rattling would of left marks on them, and they seem fine to me. But this sound has been there since i brought the car. I have a pair of Drive Shafts that i will get to putting in soon enough. If they dont cure the problem, Then im gona be on the search of a Diff :D
Then try that, and see what happens :)

Pull your back wheels off and lever the stone shield away from the disc and give it a good slap with a hammer ;)
You may just have a little bit of rust floating around in there :y

^^haha

oo sorry, just read your message properly. Was using my phone ealier :)
Err im sure theres no Rust in there :), as i changed the rear bearings and it was all good.
I should get arround to replacing the Drive Shafts this weekend :)
Ill let you know how it goes.

Have seen the prop shaft joint tapping the exhaust (it had receive a thump) on a V6 before now...
-
Oo i didnt think of that one. I will have a look for that when/if i can get my car onto a ramp to get the Drive Shafts done :)
And if thats not the problem, and the drive Shafts dont solve it then it has to the Diff :(
-
AHHHHHHH, this is a real pain in the butt :(
Replaced the Drive Shafts and the Diff, and the noise is still there
Anyone got any suggest what it maybe ?
BTW VXL V6, i will have a look at your suggestion tomorrow, if it is possible haha, as the noise is only there when the car is on the road, not when jacked up....

OK i fixed the issue :)
The previous owner had the Tyres changed before i brought the car off him, and well whoever done them had bent both Driver Side Rims/Wheels, or the previous owner hit the curb really badly..... So i saw that they were bent while i was doing the Diff and Driveshaft’s, and replaced them with some i had laying around, noise is GONE!!!
So its all good
Thanks a lot for your help guys, much appreciated....
Now moving on to the heating issue, will have a look at that this weekend :)
