When I get the revs up on my TD, particularly with the Turbo spinning, there is a really loud "whooosh" noise from the engine bay.
The last time I remember seeing this, was on a 57 plate focus TDi Estate - which was a split in an intake pipe.
I'm guessing this is likely to be a split, or leak, in the intake/turbo pipework, but I really don't have a clue where to start looking, not having dealt with a diesel before.
The car has plenty of power, but does feel pretty sluggish low down, until wound up to a decent speed....
All advice would be appreciated :y
Cheers,
James

I posted this on your other thread ;) But I think your EGR valve is leaking out of that unused nipple..

Its an unchipped TD, what do you expect ;)

the 'whooosh' noise you can hear james is other cars passing you ;)

Cheers Aaron - so sorry, I forgot to reply to that. If you'd be good enough to pop one out to me, that'd be great, just PM me how much and what to pay! :y
I still am unconvinved that's the only issue, though... I reckon there might be a split in an intercooler pipe, or similar...

thery are sluggish till it hits around 1700 rpm james, bit of trickery with the wastegate helps here, whjoosh noise is likely to be a boost leak as you say, could be black plastic leaking or i.c.or tuebs but could wellbe egr as well, remove i.c and free off fan helps as does running a manual switch to it!!

Did you check the stainless egr pipe at the exhaust manifold for a fracture.
It tends to break wright at the clamp. :y

Stainless pipe checked in daylight today. No fractures to be seen, no leaks to be felt.
EGR vaccum unit still seems to be pissing black oil over the top radiator hose, though....

Oops, forgot about this - PM me your address and I'll stick the one off my old TD in the post on Monday - we won't worry about the postage unless it turns out expensive (and I can't imagine that, somehow, it's not that heavy!)

Ah cheers mate! I will do!
You will be re-imbursed for any costs.. :y

I found after removing viscous fan noise went as well , blades on fan had a couple of chips in them , runs much better now although takes longer to get up to temp

yep thats right longer , dont ask me why, viscous must have been stopping flow of air through i guess!!
