Title: CARK-91 wiring
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 26 February 2012, 11:35:27
Right. I've got a Clarion headunit, fitted with an ISO connector, working perfectly. I've got a CARK-91 ready to plug into my ancient Nokia, and want to wire it in. I've got the pre-wired 16-pin plug above the glovebox... can I plug in an Autoleads 06-102B, and have it working, to save buggering about with too many wires?

Yep, should all plug straight in  :y

Did you have to switch the +ve and switched +ve on the ISO?

Shouldn`t need to alter the wiring on his Clarion, as has a two position fuse on the back

isnt the 2 position fuse for cars without ignition supply? if he used this position I think it will leave the cark-91 permanently live?

It won't affect the phone pre-wiring as it's integrated into the loom so ignition switched etc is still going to presented correctly

No, the two position fuse is for VW models that take the live from a different pin on the ISO block. Should not affect the voltages on the phone kit though.

Installed everything, kit remains resolutely silent - having looked at this installation guide -

http://www.nexxia.co.uk/PDF_Files/06-102B.pdf

 - which is subtly different from the one included with the kit, it suggests I need the relay listed here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autoleads-06-100B-Telephone-Mute-Relay-Vauxhall-/290438863991?pt=UK_Holders_Mounts&hash=item439f815c77 - is this an essential given it's no longer a VX headunit?

I'd rather double check before putting another pint and a half-worth of dosh through the old Paypal...

Was it a 36 Way ISO on the back of the Head unit - ie. did the car loom plug straight in?

I used a Clarion-VX ISO connector :y

I knew I had one - tidying the house, just found the 06-100 transformer... it says "plug into position 9, diagnostics" - but that's a diagnostics slot which bears no resemblance to the realy pins, oddly enough...

There is a spare relay block on position VI - will it plug into there instead, dya reckon?

Does the kit mute the Headunit when it receives a call?

It doesn't do anything at the moment  ;D

OK, does it actually power / charge the phone?

If it does but it doesn't mute the head unit on receiving / making a call then the mute line isn't on the same pin on the new headunit at a guess. Without pulling the mute line on the head unit the audio input won't be triggered.

Is the kit designed for use with an OEM stereo, and therefore may not necessarily work with an aftermarket one?

 ???

I'm thinking along the lines that the prewiring (which presents all the connections you need for a car kit in a single plug) is terminating on standard 'ISO36' pins for mute, line in etc but the non-standard headunit ISO isn't quite mapped the same...

It won`t be, Vauxhall OEM ISO 36 is different to anything else, and certainly not the same as the aftermarket sector

Bit of pin swapping required then.....

Bugger. I'm not that desperate for handsfree, I was hoping for plug-plug-plug-and-play... I'll have to look into it further.  :'(
