No such thing as a 'Best Ever' drummer, guitarist, singer, song etc. Far too many genres...rock, jazz, blues...Acid Skiffle ??? etc.
Let alone all the 'sub-genres' eg Jazz: Acid jazz, Afro-jazz, Asian American jazz, Avant-garde jazz, Bebop, Bossa nova, Calypso jazz, Cape jazz, Chamber jazz, Cool jazz, Crossover jazz, Dixieland, Free jazz, Gypsy jazz, Hard bop, Jazz blues, Jazz-funk, Jazz fusion, Jazz rap, Jazzstep, Latin jazz, M-Base, Mainstream jazz, Modal jazz, Neo-bop jazz, Nu jazz, Orchestral jazz, Post-bop, Punk jazz, Ska jazz, Smooth jazz, Soul jazz, Swing, Trad jazz, West Coast jazz.
By all means have a 'favourite', but anyone that can unreservedly say a person is the 'best ever' really needs to take the blinkers off and look around a bit. ;)
My Favourite 'rock' drummer is Stuart Copeland...and Neil Peart....and Chad Smith...and Taylor Hawkins...and.... ::)
-
You probably won't recognise his name but you will have heard him.....
Russ Kunkal

Turk is absolutely right. :y I have personal favourite drummers - Ginger Baker probably tops the list, but its all personal preference.
No denying though that Buddy Rich was an absolute master of his craft. :y
-
How could any others compare with the likes of "Bonzo " or " Monnie ".
Total legends and both sadly missed.

Agreed, nobody has yet managed to beat him for stage presence! ;D
-

-
Neil Peart for me :y
Saw Rush at the NEC 86ish (Power Windows tour)
Imo, one of the very best live bands you can spend your money on :y
As for keeping a perfect beat, Slappy Collins would be right up there with the best.
Rick Allen (Def Lepperd) One arm but still bloody good.
Plays most of the kit with his feet using a mechanical linkages to the various drums :o
Cozy Powell and Chester Thompson are also well up there :y
-
"Moon the Loon"
One of the greatest drummers ever and was part of one of the greatest Rock bands ever.
And while we are at it Entwistle has to be up there with one of the best Bass players as well

I dunno , tony levin, Nathan east, cliff burton , les claypool, jaco, phil lynott (admittedly for other reasons)
-
And I had the pleasure of playing with Brian "liquorice" locking back around 98-00 , very under rated, not flash but solid yet intuitive , always on the ball , yet laid back , an absolute gent
-
Also around the same sort of time , Steve Washington on drums , another joy to work with
-
Lets not forget Jack Bruce if were talking bass players. ;)
