Many Thanks Kev - I've found the guide so will have a bash at disconnecting - it's really quiet though - I can't imagine it scaring off those evil people - possibly it's on it's way out? ...... I'll get it out before the whole thing combusts!

Cheers - Neal

Omega General Help / Really quiet car alarm noise
« on: 20 June 2012, 10:39:10 »
Hi, Wonder if anybody can help me.  My Omega has been off the road for a couple of months (son at learning to drive stage so had to buy something mini for him to learn on - Sorned my Omega with a view to getting back into it once he'd passed test but now realise that it's impossible to insure him on it so will need to keep the roller skate and get rid of my proper car - boo!).

Any way, less of the rambling.  Charged the battery and she started first time but every time i turn the ignition off there's a really quiet car alarm type noise coming from the engine bay - I've seen this in a previous thread .......

"The only "alarm" near the reservoir is the power sounder I believe. Are you sure the sounder is ok and it`s not the alarm horn that works ok :question"

and that thread suggested opening it to rplace the battery or disconnecting it?

....... please can somebody clarify what the power sounder is (I assume that this is what is making the noise) - can I mend it etc?

Many Thanks - Neal

Omega General Help / Power steering - MOT failure
« on: 25 May 2011, 09:12:40 »
Hi Folks, wonder if anybody can help - My Omega has just failed it's MOT due to malfunctioning power steering - MOT tester has said that the power steering gets harder the more you turn the wheels when the car is stationary (I've noticed before that at very low speeds when you turn the wheels the steering is hard to turn - if you tap the accelerator then its easier which I assume is the power steering pump getting power from the engine revs increasing? - the pump does "moan" (has for years) when turning the steering wheel at low speeds ).  My local guy (very experienced mechanic who services the car - very straight, subcontracts out the MOT bit) - doesn't reckon there's anything wrong with it.  He's suggested that I take it to the local Vauxhall dealership to see if I can ge them to say that it always works like this on Omegas (i.e. the more you lock the harder it gets) and then we can go back to the MOT tester (who he knows) and "appeal".  I suspect that Vauxhall won't have a clue (!) so thought that I'd ask the people who will!! - any pointers much appreciated - thanks - Neal
