Omega General Help / Re: Catalytic converters
« on: 26 January 2014, 22:19:05 »
Modifying the 2.6 ones to fit is an option but as I am not the handiest with this sort if thing I think 3.0 ones that bolt in would be handier for me. Why the previous owner removed them I'll never know, does it help performance at all?

There are no cats in my 3.0, was thinking on putting 2.6 ones into it. Any idea where I could get two cat sections at reasonable price? Would be a great help, need them for mot.

Thanks

Neil

Just a quick question about catalytic converters.
Would the two cat sections on a 2.6 v6 be the same as the two on my 3.0 v6?
My car is a 2001 facelift 3.0 mv6

Thanks

Omega General Help / MV6 Exhaust help?
« on: 25 January 2014, 14:52:50 »
The time has come, and my omega is now up for mot on valentines day. Everything on the car seems to be in order and should give no problems.......well the exhaust might. When I bought the car the exhaust was immensely loud, a thing I always intended on changing anyway but now seems to be the right time as the mot over here (Northern Ireland) is prone to hating exhaust systems. So after a quick look under the car this morning I noticed that the guy I'd bought the car from had not only removed both center silencers but the catalytic converters seem to have been removed as well. This explains a lot now, the ridiculous noise, the amount of fuel I've been using and the few small blow outs. So i think I'm going to replace the whole system from the manifolds back, question is, where to get such a thing? Am I better off buying new, or look for a used exhaust system? Don't really fancy an aftermarket system, don't want to go down that route with this car.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Thanks

Neil

Could the oil cooler be the cause of my leak as well as the creamy gunk under the oil cap? Is it an easy fix? Or a new unit required? Have a new oil filter here, may as well do an oil change too.

Thanks

Neil.

Omega General Help / Head gasket gone?
« on: 12 November 2013, 21:21:26 »
Hi all,

So my omega developed a minor oil leak a week or so ago now, and after checking the oil level tonight noticed I needed a top up.
On removal of the oil cap I noticed a creamy coloured substance on it, little or nothing to be honest but I was always under the impression that this meant the head gasket was away. However the engine isn't over heating and it isn't using any water, which I thought were also signs of a head gasket. I've never had head gasket trouble on a car before this is why I ask. Car is a facelift 3.0 mv6 if that helps.

All advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Neil.

Omega General Help / Re: Heater rheostat
« on: 03 October 2013, 20:00:49 »
Read the description on how to test the hedgehog. However when I removed the connector from the hedgehog I could only larger connectors are the two that go to the fan, one being a + and then other a -. The other connector on the hedgehog has four pins on it all the same size. So which two do I join together?

Thanks

Neil

Is there a handy way of by-passing the hedgehog to see if it is faulty?
My electrical knowledge is very limited, forgot to mention that the fan doesn't work at any speed at all if that would effect the cause.

thanks

Neil
Click on the link in my previous reply

Newbie Welcome Area / New omega owner :)
« on: 03 October 2013, 12:55:39 »
Hi,

Have already posted elsewhere on the forum before realising there was a section for new members. However, always liked the omega whether it be facelift or pre-facelift. So eventually after an insurance company finally letting me insure an omega at a reasonable price I've bought one. 2001 3.0 mv6 saloon facelift ex-cop, well pleased with the car apart from a few minor yet really irritating problems to fix before I get it on the road.
But, thought I'd just say hello anyway :)

Back to start once again.

Go my replacement rheostat last night, fitted it only to find that it didn't make any difference. So the fan is not coming on at any speed and the rheostat didn't fix it. Question being, what is my next move?

Thanks

Neil

Omega General Help / Heater rheostat
« on: 30 September 2013, 17:58:01 »
Hi all,

Recently bought myself an Omega, its a 2000 facelift 3.0 mv6 ex cop car. Really pleased with the car as I've wanted one for a long time, however my insurance said otherwise. Had the car for a few weeks now and the heater blower hasn't worked since i got it. First of all I checked the fuse below the steering wheel to find it was ok, next move was removing the blower unit behind the  passenger airbag. Once I had it out I realized after a quick test that it was working fine. So came on here and did a quick search to find that the rheostat could be my problem, question is, is there any way of knowing that it is faulty?

Advice on this much appreciated as the heater not blowing is a right pain heading into winter.

Thanks

Neil
