@OP - what have you bought to replace Omega?

All change at home,  wife has got a Kia Sportage 2.7 v6 to replace her Suzuki Jimny, and I now have a clit 1.2 on LPG to replace the Omega, a LOT cheaper on the commute to work!

Well I would like to start by saying thanks for all the help with my Omega over the past two years. I have had a number of small yet potentially extremely pricey faults solved by the advice on here, including head gasket failure!

The time has come to pass on my Omega and the new owner collected him today,  I hope they will have as many trouble free comfortable cruising miles as I did.

Many thanks to all

Cheers

Phil

you need to get fault codes ...... pretty sure you can do the pedal trick on your car - the code appears on the odometer

Right then codes are:
34029
38008

That's it. EML is not on but car with spanner light is. When I went today I managed to start it first time, cranked for about 3 secs then slowly started with the help of my foot on gas pedal. Left it running for about 5mins, turned it off for a minute and it started after about 2 secs of cranking with no help from the pedal.

Thoughts appreciated!
who read this codes for you??
those numbers are not right
you need ones start with P XXXX

Read them using the pedal trick, so the numbers you are referring to would be:

P0340 & P0380

Hope that makes sense?
thats lot better
sound like you need new cam sensor and check if your glow plugs need replace or relay not work correct

Already had a new (genuine) cam sensor & crank sensor.  Not sure if it is glow plug or relay related as appears to make no difference if the vehicle is hot.  Will check them out though.

secondary fuel pump?

What/where is that?  Once the car is running it is absolutely fine, no loss of power, no unusual noises, no smoking etc

I will pop down the garage today or tomorrow and get the codes if I can

Phil, how fast is it cranking over?

As fast as normal?!  It sounds fine, not too slow (failed battery) and not too quick/quiet (like it has lost compression).  A neighbour has exactly the same car and it sounds just the same as that.

General Car Chat / Zafira B diesel starting trouble
« on: 24 April 2013, 23:13:37 »
I have a Zafira B which has trouble starting. Doesn't matter whether it is warm or cold.

The car with the spanner is on, and it seems unhappy with the cam & crank positions.  Car has had a new under bonnet fuse box as the old one got wet and corroded, a new ECU as the old one was giving spurious voltage figures for the cam and crank sensors and of course new cam and crank sensors as well. The timing belt has been changed and timing checked as well as an oil and filter change.

Totally running out of ideas now, anyone got any suggestions?

Being a little cheeky here but my 2.2 is up for sale, if you are interested drop me a PM.

As for what to look for everything that has been mentioned really. HG though a pain is easy to do yourself.

General Car Chat / Re: Zafira Diesel Cam sensor fault
« on: 17 March 2013, 08:40:13 »
Morning,

Yesterday finally got round to changing the crank sensor, done but no better, in fact worse! Car still won't start.  Did notice the crank sensor had oil all over the end, assume that is normal? Have noticed that the glow plug light does not come on at all when ignition turned on. Can just sits there and cranks over happily, no sign of life at all. Any thoughts?

Not sure if these are related but the car also has the following issues:
1 - Deadlocks not working
2 - Heater fan not working at all now, was only working on 4 , now nothing whatsoever.

These problems started after the new fuse box and cam sensor were fitted by the garage.

Look forward to any suggestions as at a complete loss now, thought the crank sensor would solve it.

Update: have the car back at home now, still doesn't start very well at all!

I have done the pedal trick:

ECN245248 means P2452 relating to Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor

ECN34028 means P0340 relating to Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit

ECN38008 means P0380 relating to Glow Device

I think I have the above correct, please let me know if not.

The P2452 doesn't always show, assume that is because the car has not been run for a LONG time, and just idled.

The P0380 maybe means failed glow plug? When you turn the ignition on, the glow plug light stays on for a bit (longer than it used to) and then it flashes. Not going to be helping the none starting I assume.

P0340 I recon is the same fault as it always was, and after Mark Calib DTM's suggestions I think it is the crank sensor as the cam sensor has already been changed.

Any suggestions what to do now? How easy is the crank sensor to change?

Cheers in advance.

Am currently in office approx 23 C , have got 3 t shirts, 1 jumper, jacket with 3 linings on-- however am not cold!
Heating is 1 oil filled radiator , and only 3 people.
Having said that I still prefer Mid east for the ambient temp (not the rest of it!)
Crickey!!  We should swap offices!!  Currently 21C in mine, I only have shirt and trousers on, had to loose the tie at 12pm as was just too hot (it was nearer 25C then though)

Aircon in UK ? never gets over 40C here

Don't know if a temp of above 40C is required for air con, and don't know if it has ever even got to that temp in the UK!!

I don't like sitting in more than 25C when in the office all suited and booted, and it is the stagnant air which makes it 10 times worse!
