Omega General Help / Re: Gearbox fault
« on: 17 June 2011, 12:52:52 »
REPAIRED  :y The fault was the MAF. It looks like it had a cheap import one fitted. So the lesson is don't buy cheap as it will cost more money and time.

I found this out when there was NO check light on and the engine running. I removed the plug and looked at the display, and the gearbox warning light was on.

Hope this helps and thanks for all the replies :D

I've cleaned out the pipes from the rocker cover and replaced the small one as it was very soft. No change. I disconected the MAF plug and then the gearbox warning light came up. I reconnected it and it went out again. I think I will replace this first before I get the codes read as it could also be the cause of the high fuel consumption as well.

Tried the pedal trick and no joy, nothing happened at all, and the paper clip  doesn't work on the 2.2. Looks like the garage is going to earn a few quid.

Wow Thanks for all your responses.  :y

I will take it to a garage asap. I did use a cheap code reader and there were no codes. Obviously i need the proper software for this problem which a garage should have on their code reader. If anything does get read I will post the results.

I have also noticed it seem heavy on the petrol about 24-25 mpg on a run, also when I removed the plug on the MAF sensor last night the engine didn't notice and the light and gearbox fault appeared again when stationary.

Omega General Help / Gearbox fault
« on: 11 June 2011, 19:14:03 »
Hello just joined! I have an Omega 2.2 auto.Full service history and the gearbox oil changed last year.

I have one problem with it, the check light for the gearbox comes most times when I accelerate hard. When it comes on the car loses power and creeps along at about 5mph and no response from the accelerator. I turn off the engine and restart, the light is still on sometimes but it drives fine until i hit about 5500rpm and it starts missing and jerking, if I use the kick down when it reaches maximum revs it stays there until i pull off slightly from the accelerator and changes up when the light is on.

The previous owner told me the light started to appear in the winter when we had the snow and he wheel spun up the hill!

Any help will be gratefully accepted
