I know mine is the 2.5V6 petrol, but try this.

Find where in the bulkhead the heater pipes come through from the cabin into the engine bay. (Above the driver's feet?).

Follow them and one should (I think) connect directly to the HBV.

There are loads of pics here in the 'How To' section. Does one of them not help?

I'm not trying to change the HBV mate. I'm changing the HCV.

I posted initially because the two things were almost identical in look so I assumed (incorrectly) I had a two port version of the HBV. In fact typing the part numbers on the HCV brings up only images of the HBV which makes the whole thing so bloody confusing.

I can clearly see now that the HBV is located at the back of the engine as opposed to my part HCV which is 6 inches down and to the left of the alternator and a bloody sight easier to replace 

Now I know its name I have managed to find an image of it. If you look at the image of it here, you will see why somebody with no experience like myself could easily get confused. In fact on another thread about the HBV a guy called Pete states that his HBV is at the front of the engine so I am pretty sure he also got confused into thinking that he simply had a different version of the HBV.

I'm just surprised nobody else seems to have this component on their Omega. Maybe it was only on certain models ??

Ok, I believe this part is called a heater CONTROL valve, not heater BYPASS valve. This makes sense after what Andy said about how is it bypassing.

I have ordered the part and fortunately for me the guy at my local Vauxhall dealership had a picture of the component so I could verify that the part was the correct two port one.

Hi fiend, I see no three port valve at the rear of the engine.I don't know whether I have a control valve instead of a bypass valve or both, but as I say, they look identical apart from the number of ports.

I'm 99% sure it is an HBV but for whatever reason a different type of one

I've cleaned it up and can see two part numbers on it now. 90566947 and 90566948. When I type these into Google it still only shows the three port one, not two, WTF . As I said, this is the only difference in appearance all the rest of the part is identical.

Is mine a limited edition with only two port HBV, I've bought a classic car

Just remembered something else I was going to ask.

The fans were not kicking in so the car kept going into recovery mode when the needle went of the dial.

I've managed to fix this now (dirty connections) but whilst I was trying to figure out how to fix it, I put the heater up to HI (yep, even on the boling hot days we had with all windows down  .

This went on for about a week until I fixed the fans.

Is it doing this that caused the leak in the HBV ?

Morning all,


I have an omega 2.2 DTI Y reg.

I have a couple of questions.

1) In the threads I have read, the HBV is always mentioned as being at the back of the engine.

The part that I believe is the HBV on mine is at the front near the rad. It also has only two ports not three, but looks identical in all other ways to the HBV pics I have seen.

Is this also an HBV but for whatever reason on my model it is in a different place on the car ?

2) Mine is leaking, but what I think I see when I take it out the car, is that it looks like (I can't be sure) there is a small square hole where water could come out that was made intentionally and it could be coming out of this.

Am I incorrect and the part should never eject water at all, or is this some kind of safety mechanism that releases water when something else is wrong on the car ?




As a side note, I couldn't get the stupid clips off the thing so cut the hoses off as near to the port ends as poss and replaced clips with jubilee clips, now only takes 5 mins to get off and on again.
