Thanks to all for the help, and special thanks to Osprey for counting the flashes- got different numbers every time I tried it.

The invoice says replaced throttle potentiometer so I think it was  just the sensor not the body ?

So , you still reckon best bet is cam sensor- on that basis will try and get it done on Friday. ( and promise to ask for genuine part ! )

Really appreciate all your help !

Thanks

Ok- still need to decide what to do next. Tried the pedal thing and got son to record the results on his smart phone. He has posted it on you tube -

with a tag line " Mum's car is broken " his user name is phreekedelic . I'm struggling to count the flashes accurately but reckon there is more than the 120 error showing ( it was cleared yesterday but threw more faults last night. Any experts near Lancaster- can travel to you.
What do you think ?

hi, took it to the a non dealership workshop... who did a code reading but they then took it round to the dealership to check it had the latest software . Just rang them ie the non dealership team and have been told the code was PO 120. Know there is a list of codes on the forum somewhere ..but havn't checked to see if it makes sense yet.

Thanks again

Hi,
Thanks for the reply autoaddict  - much appreciated. Will try to get the codes or if I'm feeling brave try the paperclip method ! I'm in Lancaster BTW. Had a gut feeling after looking at the board that the ecu might not be the way to go.

Cheers

Hi guys- newbie so sorry if I get it wrong.

Car- X reg omega estate 2.2 16v CD estate first reg 2001- 103k miles.

Problem. every fifth start or so engine lights go on and all I get is limp mode power.  Fault not usually whilst running but this has happened three times now- but not whilst under load.

If I turn the ignition on and off fault clears after between 3 and twenty attempts- then ok for between three days and a week or so.

Took in for code readings.. was told best to replace potentiometer ? did that but fault remains. Took in for code reading this am... still points to potentiometer-but as that has been replaced- not likely. They reflashed ecu with most up to date version (2002?) . Its been suggested next step is to send away ecu - and if that doesn't fix it then next likely thing is faulty connection on wiring loom.  So the question is have any of you seen anything like this before and what is your advice as I don't want to incur another bill and still have a faulty car ? Thanks in advance
Deb
