General Car Chat / Omega hunt
« on: 02 February 2016, 23:35:47 »
Alright fellas, been many years since I posted here and I hope your all doing well, but then again its been many years since I owned an Omega! Recently it was my wife’s 40th birthday and on the lead up to it I spent so much time asking her what she wanted for her birthday. Well, and as wife’s do she hummed and hared about it never giving me a straight answer, so I wrestled with her undeceive moods for ages leading up to the day. 3 weeks before her birthday I said ‘Hun, what would really make your birthday, what can I get you that would make it worth wile’ She then said that she would love to relive the days before we had the kids and would love a facelift 97-99 Omega Elite. I thought, ok, easy, there must be loads of them about. How wrong I was. I spent those 3 weeks looking for the car, came across Elite,s with rotten bodywork rotted wheel arches, some that had been in the hands a wannabe racers with stupid cone filters on them, weeping rocker covers on both sides, idiots trying to sell me CDX,s with Elite trim, even had one 2ltr GLS with the Elite interior tying to fob me off . Basically every motor I came across was a horror story. I just couldn’t find the right car in time, so as an alternative I bought her a 1998 Volvo C70 T5 GT which she was pleased with, not an Omega Elite but from the same era so she was happy with it. Its only on retrospect that I realise that I should have come back the this forum first in search of an 90s, Elite. I should have asked you guys first, but as I have a memory like a leaky boat I forgot about this forum until now, 5 days after her birthday, lol. Always the bloody way, this dam T5 leaks cash and fluids far more than any Elite we used to own. Again, should have remembered you guys in the first place. :-\

The coolant should not be getting near 100C!

It shouldnt? It has to be said that this was the first time I gave her a real hard thrashing, and wasnt surprised to see the temp go up.
Only thing that stoped me having fun is the brakes got a little hot and stoped working, kinda scarry ;D

But in saying that I have noticed a few times normal driving that the temp will sometimes quickly rise to 100, then very quickly settle back to normal in the space of maybe 15-20 seconds seconds!

Lamda sensors are slower to respond when cold and hence include a heater, the ecu can detect a slow response and flags its as an error code in the form of a heater fault.

So, give it a thrash and you heat the sensor up and the response gets quicker.......light goes off.

Did you get the replacement sensor?

No mate, didnt turn up, bloody royal mail >:(

Omega General Help / Yet anouther lambda question
« on: 05 August 2007, 00:55:25 »
Had a little result on ebay today so I treat meself to £10 of that super unleaded fuel, the pricy stuff! ;)
Really opened up the V6 in sports mode for about half hour, had great fun.
The only EML code showing is the 89lambda, as the breaks ceased to exist with hard driving, and the temp went just passed 100 the EML went out! Eased off, temp droped EML came back on! Opened here up again, temp just passed 100 and went no higher, EML went out again!
Again returned to normal driving, temp droped, and EML came back on.

IS this the hot exhaust gas making the lambda work right? Or is it just some strange fluke?

Omega General Help / Re: I have an auto but want a manual

I would swap my auto for a manual at the drop of a hat.
But there arnt going to be that many manual owners who will be keen on swaping for an auto I recon! ;)

Right, gotcha. Had the tracking checked and was fine, also wheels ballanced. But there is a bit of a wobble between 75 and 85.

Also when this noise is there, when pulling away or braking,  you can feel it through the wheel!

Well I had the calipers off yesturday so if owt was in there i recon it might have gone.
Strange thing i noticed today is that the pasenger side front tyre is getting really chewed up evenly accross the tread.

Those front discs look new......

There was a horrible sound under braking, exactly like very low pads, went out and bought a new set to pop on and when I got the wheels off the disks and pads were new. Always handy to have a spare set i guess.

But the sound, which sounded exactly like very low pads starting to grind a little, is still there, and would apear nowt to do with the pads and disks!
Done the idler arm recently and I know its all tight under there, so I am not sure what could be causing the sound

Changing the pads today and on the pasanger side found this neatly tucked away.

A sensor, but which one? What exactly is it?

Well somthing seems to have hapoened towards the 89. Checked all the wiring, made sure plugs were ok, and the EML is no longer lit up all the time! YEYEYEY

But its still got the 89 code on the paperclip ::) And a lumpy tickover
