Problem solved,worn gearstick connecting rod bolt,new bolt fitted(awkward) quiet as a mouse now!

Hi all,has anyone ever experienced transmission noise through the gear stick (manual),there is a fair bit of play which wants sorting.
It sort of whines in fifth but if i put my hand on the stick it stops? I dont think its a worn box? (148k)_

I have that noise,if I hold the gear stick (manual) it goes,I suspect the linkages

I would say its easier to change the head gasket! Major work to change to diesel IMO
