Newbie Welcome Area / Change camshaft alignment sensor

Hello all, never had a reason to use a forum before but as Iīve moved lock stock and barrel to Spain we brought the Omega with us and re-registered on Spanish plates, had it from being six months old but always had a friend who was a mechanic to do all the usual stuff, but I will have to do the general stuff myself from now on, not found anyone I can trust yet, being a mechanical engineer I can turn my hand to that side of things. So, why am I posting now? I was looking for a procedure to follow as I had a problem and found this forum, after reading related topics and gleening info. from that I thought what a great way to pass on info to everyone, I hope enough of you guys will find the time to do likewise as follows:-
The engine management light started coming on occasionally about six months ago and became gradually more frequent until is became fully on about two months ago. I also noticed a sluggishness with the engine and a misfiring at 4500 rpm. I found a local garage who charged me 20 euros to plug a diagnostics unit in and tell me that the problem was with the camshaft alignment sensor, so a trip back to the UK last week coincided with a trip to a car spares shop and I bought one. So here is my procedure for anyone outhere considering the same, only a guide but hope it helps.
Change procedure: I removed the spark plug cover (two alan screws)unclipped the sensor plug and the three bolts(10mm) that hold the cam shaft belt cover in position, the top bolt also holds in position the harness support bracket, there is also a support collar which the bolts go through, be careful these donīt fall out when you pull the cover forwards. There is not a lot of room to get the cover out but with care and patiance it will lift upwards and out, pulling the cover away and around the timing cogs etc. without having to remove any other belts.The alignment sensor location can then be clearley seen between and just under the top two timing wheels, it is a spline drive (male) screw but a 1/4inch ring spanner fitted nicely,
I removed the screw and lifted the sensor out and replaced with the new one and replaced the screw, the cover slid down back into position easier than it came out, there is a clip on seal round the edge of this cover mine came off at the bottom but a managed to put it back on without a problem and aligned it up, I placed the bushes back and the three screws, I then cleaned the sensor plug with wd40 and blew it out and dried it, then clipped it back into the tops of the new sensor and replaced the spark plug cover.
I checked everything twice and shut the bonnet, the engine started first time with no management light on and run smoother, there is now no misfiring at 4500rpm. Hope this helps someone out there. good luck.
