Omega General Help / control indicator for exhaust emission light stayi

just bought a diesel Omega, 2.2 engine, drove it home 468miles, half a tank of fuel, the day after it's mot. Did the run on cruise control on fairly empty roads mainly at just over 60mph, about 2,300rpm. Next day removed dash,replaced the display for time/date/radio as illumination was gone (faintly visible in dark) & clock was running at about 4 times speed and as I removed the dash, ignition not on, a sound like a mobile phone ringing came from the dash. Got a new display, refitted dash,a bleep as dash was refitted, started engine after I had put all the screws back, and control indicator light came on. Switched off engine, consulted manual, tried again, same result. Before I leg it to a garage, any ideas, bearing in mind that for 468 miles all ok, and no mileage since?
