When I bought it the seller said the gearbox had been rebuilt.

How can you tell the difference between the two models of gearbox anyway?

My 2.5TD Auto Elite has been given a clean bill of health with a fresh MOT. Only needed 2 drop links and the hand brake adjusting (it's an auto, it's never used).  It's got 198,000 miles on the clock.  I was going to scrap it but I thought I'd give her a chance and she didn't let me down.

Is there anyone else on this forum with a diesel auto elite? According to that stupid website it's the only one left.

Walked out from work this morning at 6am, with 4 other members of staff.  All have taken the p@$s out my old shed in the past (she's not, she's in very fine order!). I ended up taking 3 home as their newer, modern, much better and far more expensive diesels wouldn't start.  2 warms of the plugs and first turn, she fired into life. :y

Glad i checked all the glow plugs before the bad weather set in.

Was a Spanner Jockey then joined the old bill.  the 3.2,s were very good, plenty fast enough and more than enough power.  When i first came across them we still had an old 3.0 senator straight six, avery nice engine indeed.  The autos were/are good cars, but failed to take the abuse that the manuals could.  I think all the Omegas are out of Police circulation when they decided that BMW offered a better package in the car and servicing etc.  They put a high price on their cars being seen and used by Police.  Vauxhall have nearly lost all the police contracts, with all but a few old shape astras still waiting to be replaced.  Seems Ford and BMW are the way to go.

I have driven both the marked estates and the unmarked saloon versions of these cars.  The saloon MV6 plain cars were the best by far, although i would never want to by ex-police cars, servicing is kept religiously but they get used hard.  None of the cars we had were 'chipped' as some think happens, neither do we have a button which changes the lights to green.  the most modification i ever knew of was rear suspension of the traffic cars, and sometimes better brakes.  They come from the manufacturer as a standard, or sometimes a Police Spec car, and are converted to take the radios and lights hence the missing radios and holes all over the place.

Got me a dirty diesel now.  I still drive the high power cars at work, so no need at home really.

Hello, just a quick note to introduce me and my 2000 2.5 TD Elite Estate, in met Black.  Very nice car, goes very well.  I've removed the viscous and fan cowl, and changed the Water Pump whilst i was in there.  Im an ex Mechanic and i used to drive the white 3.2s with the red stripes and funny colour lights on top, until they were replaced by BMWs! :y

Omega General Help / 2.5 TD Elite Auto. Performance Chip?
« on: 15 September 2011, 16:29:50 »
Hi,  Been reading the forum for a few weeks now and got some good stuff so far.  My question is:- which is the best way to improve the performance of the BMW 2.5 TD engine? and what sort of cost should i be looking at.  it's a 2000 facelift model car so i'm hoping the Auto box will cope with any power increase.  I hand this over to the subject matter experts!

Thanks in advance. :P
