Is it the front passenger footwell that gets wet?

Omega General Help / Re: Gear selection switch
« on: 13 October 2015, 15:02:35 »
Thanks everyone.
I'm 99% sure it's the selector switch. As I've said, I've had the problem before and yes, the gear stick lights light up!
I'll try and let you know how I get on.

Oh, while I remember, do I need to watch out for any thing when I take it off?
If I remember correctly from last time, it's just a matter of unbolting it and making sure it is correctly aligned when putting it back on?

Thanks all.

Omega General Help / Gear selection switch
« on: 13 October 2015, 11:10:36 »
Hi All, has anyone ever successfully repaired the gear selection switch? (on the side of the gear box)
I have a 2.2 cdx (petrol) and the switch got damp in the last heavy rainfall. The car regularly goes into limp home mode which can be rectified by turning the ignition off then on again although the error light stays on.
I know this is a frequent problem as I have experienced this on my previous Omegas so my questions are:

1. Can it be repaired and does anyone have any tips. e.g. should I removed the switch and clean it up? Is there anything I should watch out for when doing so?
2. Should I just bite the bullet and replace it and where might be the best place to get a new/reconditioned one?

Thanks

Hi Alex, I had the same problem on my last Omega and I'm sorry to say I never got to the bottom of the problem even after trying everything that has been suggested on here.
In the end I put a piece of thick foam behind the rear seat and that muffled it a bit. After that I just turned the radio up!  :y
I would say live with it if you can as I spent a fair bit of money and time on it until a very nice chappie on the M56 went into the back of me doing 90mph (I was doing 70!)
He was eating a sandwich and trying to change a CD at the same time but it solved my problem!

What everyone is forgetting is that initially there were certain standards that were set for EU membership and for the monetary union.
The idea was that there would be stability and strength in numbers. The problem is that these standards or criteria were "relaxed" so that certain member states could join.
The likes of Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland were allowed membership as they were deemed to be "On their way" to meeting the criteria even though they had not actually achieved many of the said standards.
Now that they are member states, their recovery is hampered by poor taxation collection systems and weak economies and have to be bailed out by the richer member states or China.
It's a simple matter of averages, strong member states offer stability but equally, if you have weak member states it makes it harder for the EU to recover as a whole, and that is purely from a financial view point.
Member of the EEC was about trading links (I think!) but membership of the EU was so much more.
I don't believe that we need to be a member of the EU to maintain trading links but I think that Germany and France would probably spit their dummies out should the UK leave.
Don't forget the EU wanted to put a taxation on financial transactions which would have meant we would be sending even more money East to support the weaker member states or to be wasted on EU bureaucracy.
As for the Euro, it's a no go area and is likely to be for the UK for many years to come.
But what do I know, I drive for a living!

Omega General Help / Re: SL rear springs

Don't take this as gospel but in the past I have found that when the coil springs snap it has pointed to a problem with the shock absorbers!

I would do as Hotel21 suggests first as I have had the same problem on 3 Omegas and besides it is the cheapest option!
It was always the scuttle drain where the pollen filter is with mine.
If you are careful you should be able to clear the blockage alongside the cable with a torch and blunt stick/pokey thing! I used a chopstick!
