They say there is not enough money in the pension pot, fair enough. All public sector have got to have a cut back on pensions.

Does that include politicians? No, why not?

Are they not public sector workers?

If I remember rightly they are on a fair old screw when they retire.........

Reading this about the cambelt got me thinking, I just had a look at my service book and can’t see anything about cambelt replacement.

What it does mention is “Toothed belt and Ribbed belt”, this is where I show my ignorance again. Would any of those be classed as a cambelt?

How often should they be changed, mileage and time factor?

I hate the thought of having engine rebuild.

Sorry for hijacking Mart.  :(

I’ve just had a look at the paperclip link, thanks.

I’ll have a go at the paperclip test next week, I’m don’t feel very confident about getting the codes. I’ll have a go tho.

Thanks again everyone  :y

Household income is well above average and we work less hours!! Gas prices are below average and electricity prices are average.....

Its hard when you got no income at all, the energy prices really hits home then.  :'(

Thanks for the replies, I was only going to use them because they were convenient, only about 4 miles away. I’ll forget about halfords now after what TB said.

Looks like I’ll have to wait for a bit until I can book it in at the stealers.

If I could do the paperclip check I’d make a right pigs ear of it, I'd be like Del's brother, Rodney, a right plonker ;D

The airbag light is on all of the time, that doesn’t bother me at all.

It’s the emissions light on 80% of the time that’s bugging me, I don’t know if I’m making things worse while driving it.

Has anyone used Halfords Autocentre for a diagnostic check?

If so what did you think of them?

Or heard anything to put you off using them?

They charge £50 for a diagnostic check, is that reasonable?

Thanks all.

Unfortunately it’ll a quite some time before I will have the time to get anywhere near the M3, time at the moment is one thing I’m short of.

It looks like I’ll have to take my chances with the stealers.  :(

Where are you in London? If you're on the West side then there's a member with a Tech2 who knows how to use it not a million miles from you.

I'm in SW, near Croydon

Thanks for the help & suggestions.

I thought a diagnosis would tell me why my airbag light is on all the time and the emissions light on 80% of the time.

I’ve only had the car about a month and the lights were on when I brought it. I put it through the M.O.T a couple of days after I got it.

It failed on emissions and cost me £90 quid to have some welding done on the exhaust, but the light is still on.  :(

I’m hoping diagnosis will tell me why the lights are on.
Does a nearby member have the correct equipment.

If that garage doesn't even know what plug it has, I doubt they would understand the data coming back, unless they take the fault codes on face value (bad move) and willy nilly change parts.

I took your advise, didn't bother going back to the garage. When I get chance I will book it in at a stealer as you call them.  :(

I went to my local garage to ask if they could do a diagnosis, the person who does it wasn’t there and told me to come back Monday.

He asked me if I had a 9 pin plug, I didn’t have a clue,  :D is it the tech2 that does the diagnosis that I have read so much about?

Also can someone tell me where it is situated?

Update

I thought some might be interested, I spoke to my insurance company yesterday on what they would give me for my Granada mk3, 115k on clock, year 1990.

First they offered me £800.00, I said I’m not happy with that, it went quiet for a bit and he come back with £900.00, I told him I'm agreeing because it was giving me a lot a aggro.

So at the end I got £750.00 after they deducted £150.00 for excess, not a bad result.

I am now a happy
