Omega General Help / Re: Help pls!
« on: 09 October 2007, 15:28:48 »
Well came back from friends workshop earlier  :'(  Head is cracked

Im selling the car as it is - was going to break it, but need rid of it ASAP so I can buy another Omega

If anyone is interested in the car let me know with a sensible offer.  Apart from the engine and the bottoms of the passenger doors its mint! I really liked that car too!

Well went out today, and could not get the hose off with the thermostat in it!  I was going to cut the bugger, but didnt bother.  Got a friend who owns a workshop looking at it tomorrow.

Good news is that he sounded familiar with the engine, as he started by diagnosing the possibilty of the BMW lump having a cracked head over the phone.

Will see what happens - I just hope she has got a bloackage somewhere??  If not I will be breaking her to keep my losses to a  minimum, as i dont fancy the thought of an expensive head gasket repair!

HG cost me about £130 ish, inc gaskets, head bolts etc. The swearing was free...

Plus head skim, oil, anti freeze etc - would I need to change the timing chain?  (no experience of chains - just whips LOL!)

In hein sight sounds reasonable already!

Does the TD have an electrical pump located at the front of the car?    If so there is a loud buzzing noise coming from the front bumper drivers side?

Could this be the cause of the problem?

Omega General Help / Help pls!

I own a 2.5td elite (BMW engine)

Have a problem with it overheating at the mo!!  (Hope its not a head gasket)  She is reaching max temp with the red-light on

Leaking water from the header tank as if there is a block/trapped air or similar, topped up the water and let her run.  She then sucked down the water I gave her, got level correct etc.

She is now spitting the water out of the header tank fairly quickly, and from the front of the car I can hear a loud buzzing noise that was not there before??

Anyone had this??  - Im hoping its something minor - worst fears is that my headgasket has gone!

Also worth mentioning that I left the heaters on in the car whilst topping up - they were blowing warm air (not hot), and I squeezed the hose and it felt bubbly as the water was squeezed throught o the header tank?

Omega General Help / Electrical fault??
« on: 27 August 2007, 23:37:43 »
Some strange going on with the Omega this week.  Appear to be electrical, but do not have a clue about these things!!

Replaced rear brake light today.  On removing the bulb noticed that it had actualy cracked, and has a white residue inside!  New bulb in, worked fine.

About six hours later the brake light warning was appearing on the dash/consol screen.

checked brake light operation and was fine.

Continued with my journey with cruise control, when I turned lights on cruise control would not function?  Turn off and it worked again perfectly fine??

Checked brake light again, and found that brake lights not working, and eye level brake light in rear window was stuck on.

I removed the newly replaced bulb, and the eye level brake light resumed to normal function, as did the cruise control??

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Re: v6 selector switch .....

Hi all,

OK... got a 2.5L v6 with an autobox and now and again the gearbox sort of slams into gear (99% OK most of the time) and then the AutoBox message is displayed on the centre console and then if I need to change down to a low gear manually to accelerate from a junction etc.... After turning off the car and then back on again the problem sods off.

I understand this could be a symptom of the selector switch needing a good old clean... where do I locate it (and what does it look like??), is it easy to take apart and take off the car and refit? A step by step would be nice.

Secondly I am looking for a kind person with Tech2 in my area who would kindly upgrade my autobox ECU to the more recent version to smooth things out in the box.

third... how do I change the oil/filter in the autobox?

That's it.... 3 questions in one!!

Thanks for your info and replies!!

I've just changed my AR25 for an AR35.  I had the same problem with.  Swapped everything over bar the selector, as my old ar25 had a new selector switch, so stuck this on the ar35.  Now I've still got the same problem.  Although drove car today and it hasn't happenned?

Be interested to read the replies to your problems...

Welcome to the site :)

I wondered why he was asking for a AR35 when he sold the car...

Yep I bought the car - In fact me and Rog are very good friends, through the 21 turbo owners club - the gearbox problem is just one of those things - Roger had driven the car down to me from  Leics just two weeks ago, and she never missed a beat, then a week after i bought her, she fails.  Could of happenned anytime to anyone I guess.

At least I got piece of mind knowing that I can fall back on these forums for assistance etc.

By the way the car is very clean all round - my first Omega, and Im very impressed.
