Hi Freecall,
Thanks for that. Whenever I tried repairing bodywork before I could never get a finish I was happy with, so thats why I thought about going to a pro.

Omega General Help / rusty wheel arches
« on: 09 August 2012, 22:12:28 »
Hi there,
My W reg Elite is looking a tad shoddy round its back end. The old problem of the wheel arches rusting. Called at a local body works today.. and was told its more of a restoration job!! new metal etc. and 300 to £400 (per side) was mentioned. I made a hasty retreat. Has anyone in the Mansfield/Notts area  had any similar work done and could suggest a suitable repairer. I should think the cost of repair is not much less than the cars value, but its only done 44k, and I use it mainly for towing and when I want a bit of comfort motoring. Thanks.

Omega General Help / cam cover gaskets, still available seperately?
« on: 16 September 2010, 07:37:09 »
Hi there,
Rang the local Vauxhall dealers for a price to replace the cam cover gaskets on my 2.5 Elite and was informed that they are only listed as an item only  WITH the covers i.e. at a cost of £85 each. Reason being, cars getting older and spares more difficult to get. Surely this is not the case.Any thoughts on this, anyone in the Notts area had the gaskets and breathers done recently, and what did you pay.
Many thanks
Philip

Omega General Help / towing wiring connector
« on: 10 June 2008, 11:01:59 »
Hi there,
Can any Omega owners out there tell me if they have ever connected into the small black and purple connector in the boot behind the plastic cover panel (gm part nozm12 -10).
I wondered if there was a company that sold the female part of this connector. I would assume that a Vauxhall dealer would want to sell me the connector and cable as one, or am I mistaken.
On aprevious Omega I had someone had soldered the wires into the back of the plug (10 altogether) It worked fine , but I wanted to fit the correct plug if possible.
Many thanks

Omega General Help / auto back axle "thump"
« on: 12 March 2008, 20:24:04 »
Can anyone please advise if it normal when putting the car in drive there is a "thump" comes from the back axle area. 2.5 covered 90,000 miles, it has always done this ,since I have had the car, but it beng my first automatic assumed it was normal, now not so sure.
Also any ideas what would cause a slight pulling to the left (not road camber) this is something that has recently started. Many thanks

Omega General Help / oil film under plenum?
« on: 16 October 2007, 08:06:01 »
Hi there,
Can any of you experts out there please answer a few queries for me.I decided to check the breathers on my 2.5 , and this has led me to ask the following:-

1.When I took the plenum chamber off there was an  "oil film"  on the metal inside the 6 rubber o rings,is this normal, if not , any ideas?  The cam cover gaskets had been done on a previous occasion,so would be surprised if this was the cause.

2. The breather tubes were quite clean ,only where the thin left side one goes on the black plastic ecotec thing waspartially blocked .They were not gunged up, but what is IN the aluminium breather box at the back, and does this need cleaning out (if possble how?)

3.I did not clean the egr ,at the time, can you direct me to the "how to". on here please, I cant seem to find it.

Thanks
Philip

Omega General Help / Re: misfire/petrol leak
« on: 09 September 2007, 18:11:03 »
Hi Grumpy,
Thanks for the reply,The petrol was definitely leaking from under the cover, the top and pipes were quite dry. Regarding the plug leads, they were not replaced at the time, take your point about the breather, will clean it out. Do you think its possibly the leads?
