Check vac pipes where they go through the bulkhead near to heater hoses there are two, one comes from the vac tank under scuttle near to pollen filter, the other from the heater bypass valve,  the vac tank is feed from a T piece on large brake servo pipe

car ran fine for five days, no issues atall, ive been around engines since i was i kid not much i cant handle for example i changed my cambelt without all the locking tool stuff, its easy if you set rollers and tensioner up correctly to start with, it comes out spot on first time long as you check and double check , took half hour to set up, rotate, check, rotate , check again no problem............ milage was the same as when i left it. mine was the last one of the day ,i suspect they reved it to max to heat up cats, the car had no sign of any smoke from exaust in five days, thanks for your comments guys

Omega General Help / mot guy blown v6

I am so gutted , i have just finished a top end rebuild (25v6). on account of high emissions.   All gaskets, valve steam seals, valves reseated, heads cleaned like like new, breathing imaculately clean, done 116k bores show not even slight wear, plugs, leads, the absolute full monty methodicly carried out, plus cambelt, rollers, tensioner ect, aux belt. oil, all filters,  started at first turn of key, all lamps on dash as normal, em light normal opp, up to temp, fans operate normaly, no issues at all so really happy , ran it for five days.  And then took it for MOT and left it already with temp at normal, when i went to collect it the guy told me he had to abort the emmision test because the temp gauge was off the scale fans didnt run and it was pumping out blue smoke like hell, now i have intermitant oil pressure and rattles to die for, i suspect this guy has been red lining it to heat up the cats and blown it, guys i could cry im so gutted, i had no recourse with the guy as i was not present and there where two of them working on it, apart from that it needed a new tyre, comments appreciated plus has any one got a half decent spare lump and a box of tissues

Hi Tommy.  pipe frrom stainless at rear of block goes to one side of heater matrix via bulkhead connection, other pipe from bulkhead connection goes to bridge, also on bridge is a smaller hose which roots from there down right hand side of engine to throttle body

Omega General Help / Re: Car stalling dangerously

I had the same thing on my CDX on two seperate occasions, i suspected crank shaft sensor, which as it happened it was, symtems were total shut down of engine and no warning, it would restart after some time and be fine for couple of mile and then shut down again, can be dangerous if caught out in the fast lane, it may be worth checking. its located on near side side close to oil filter, easy to change, not really cheap to buy new, i bought my second one from scrapper if it turns out it is, be careful how you install replacement as cabel runs close to exaust, plugs up back of plenum pass side

Guy from the AA couldnt even find the software for a V6 CDX on his all singing all dancing diagnostic kit so he loaded me up and took me fifty miles back home

You might want to check out the grey sealent for this application Vauxhall specifie this grey one for oil cooler top cover so its obviously water proof, but i suspect it may not be oil resistant over long period.  For example it does'nt recomend this for use on cam covers when gaskets are changed, maybe worth a check

Omega General Help / Hydraulic lifters v6
« on: 17 June 2010, 22:59:04 »
I am in the process of top end rebuild and refurbed all but two lifters, as described in your post on this subject.  It appears these two have broken springs compared with the rest, as the pistons wont return when depressed by hand, as do all the others.  My question is, after expelling all the old oil from the good ones is it correct that the pistons now have "bounce”?. If yes then i have no problem with these 22.  What baffles me is, i called in at Vauxhall to buy two new lifters and on inspecting these found that they had no "bounce" at all in the piston, is this because they are preloaded and fully pumped up?

Also can i fit new lifters in the old bores without problem? Vauxhall price £27 each.... and no i didn’t.

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment

Omega General Help / tight cam followers
« on: 10 June 2010, 16:52:47 »
Can i ask about v6 cam followers, i am in the process of refitting mine and find that when inserted some have a definite bounce when pushed and others seem solid, i am a bit reluctant to go with the solid ones unless i can prove them to be still servicable, i fully understand the operation of them but need to confirm weather to reuse or replace.  If its replace what would i expect to pay and can replacements be run in existing follower bore ?

Cheers for that Mark, i just found a tool on ebay for this. but probably like yourself, prefer the challange of improvising, i did actualy consider the magnetic screwdriver and grease method but i guess i just needed conformation (eyesite not what it used to be)
