Mine has started doing something simular to this.
Goes like this fine all the way upto 4th then when I overtake  it shifts down to 2nd almost instantly then jumps back into 3rd and with my foot firmly planted on the floor its almost red lining and then it seems like its hunting for 4th if I lift a little it then finds 4th, strange do I have an underlying problem or is it a quick simple fix IE change of fluids and re-new or top up perhaps.
I have the older 3.0l automatic on a T plate only done 76,000 miles any ideas thanks in advance guys.

I had that once on a ford siera it turned out to be a warped brake disc.

My Grandfather was the last ever 'Button Boy' on HMS Victory 8). He used to have to stand on the perch at the top of the main mast :o. Didn't get my vertigo from him then ::)
Really thats quality like it nice bit of history there then.

The saga continues.
All good saturday and sunday left early this morning for cambridge and hey hoo finished at 7pm and flat batt  >:(
Temps all good no problems there in traffic around the 95 deg and motorway 90 deg.
Maybe my batt has had it, volt test for alternator charge was at 14.9v is this good or bad.
I wonder if summit is daraining the batt or a bad earth perhaps.
Any ideas guys before I torch it.

And who was that Omega owner in a silver saloon that flashed me to pull out in front of him/her coming onto the A1m as I got caught by a slower moving car thanks but I was monotoring temps an gauges an don't want to punch it to warp just yet until timming belt is done, however nice sounding saloon it was like I'd just been passed by a spitfire that really did have some grunt.
Sounds a tad high, possible failing regulator in alternator. Have you done the full test as per guide

Dude that just sounds complicated to me, give me a bit of carpet and a knife and I'm as happy as pig in muck start talking volts and amps an all that other stuff I'm lost shame on me for not listening at school especially in physics  :'(

In this world of all things electronic as regards ships navigation the fall back is the basic Mk1 magnetic compass or the compass binnacle.  As most things at sea are subject to massive corrosion from the salt water then materials such as brass are well used to prevent thism as well as prevent undue exterior magnetic influence.

On most large ships, the helmsman stands on the bridge and steers via electronic means but has a magnetic compass as a standby and this is mounted on the exterior of the roof of the bridge with the lower portion projecting downwards, through the roof (deckhead) into the bridge and into the helmsmans sightline.

As most large ships now are made of steel they are subject to their own magnetic field and thus influence a magnetic compass.  This is where something called Kelvins Balls are used to alleviate magnetic influences on a magnetic compass.

These are generally iron spheres and painted to prevent coorrosion either side of the brass binnacle.

That gives the monkey island and brass balls colloquialisms as in use today.

It is often stated that the phrase originated from the use of a brass tray, called a "monkey", to hold cannonballs on warships in the 16th to 18th centuries. Supposedly, in very cold temperatures the "monkey" would contract, causing the balls to fall off.[13] However, nearly all historians and etymologists consider this story to be an urban legend. This story has been discredited by the U.S. Department of the Navy,[14] etymologist Michael Quinion, and the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).[15]
 
They give five main reasons:
 1.The OED does not record the term "monkey" or "brass monkey" being used in this way.
 2.The purported method of storage of cannonballs ("round shot") is simply false. Shot was not stored on deck continuously on the off-chance that the ship might go into battle. Indeed, decks were kept as clear as possible.
 3.Furthermore, such a method of storage would result in shot rolling around on deck and causing a hazard in high seas. Shot was stored on the gun or spar decks, in shot racks—longitudinal wooden planks with holes bored into them, known as shot garlands in the Royal Navy, into which round shot were inserted for ready use by the gun crew.
 4.Shot was not left exposed to the elements where it could rust. Such rust could lead to the ball not flying true or jamming in the barrel and exploding the gun. Indeed, gunners would attempt to remove as many imperfections as possible from the surfaces of balls.
 5.The physics does not stand up to scrutiny. The contraction of both balls and plate over the range of temperatures involved would not be particularly large. The effect claimed possibly could be reproduced under laboratory conditions with objects engineered to a high precision for this purpose, but it is unlikely it would ever have occurred in real life aboard a warship.


Yeah right like anyone believes whats on there. I have seen one in the maratime museum and it was called a brass monkey that was what the sailors called it can't remember what its real name is.
And what do the yanks know anyway they didn't even have a navy back then.

Yeah everyone who knew about the brass monkey well done but you were to quick to chime in I was hopping for some rather strange answers to that.
I knew what it was but then I do watch the history channel and all those other ones the misses reakons are boring.
But yes brass was and still is very temperature dependant.

Well if you got the money like a friend of mine who just paid £6000 on one those new airbus big boys for a room yes a room with a king size double bed a walk in shower and a 42" plasma tv, so with that in mind and 14 hours with the misses plenty of time for some mile high flying  :y

I think everyone has to vent now and again and tell the odd joke be it funny or not, I mean lets face it pubs are closing down up and down the country and as those were the usual place we would all meet and tell bad jokes and talk about our bad day or current affairs.
It now seems the forums have become the place for this cause we can get some beer tins from the store and sit in the comfort of our own home and waffle away to our hearts content.
Lets not loose freedom of speech however I for one draw the line at racisim its a no no evey man woman and child no matter the colour of their skin are and should always be seen equal. And I am married to a lovely filipina who's job is of a very high position she is the principal bread winner in the house and she works damn hard too.

If anyone has access to companies house check it out.
HMRC in 2006 ceased trading and declared themselves bankrupt with 6 million in the bank mmmmmmm suspicious or what.
Re- named HMRC LTD from HMRC PLC.
I'd like to know how anyone can declare themselves bankrupt with 6 million in the bank.
And that 6 million pounds of our tax money still sits there today under the title HMRC PLC.
One rule for us and one for them goto you tube and check out John Harris its an illuision or even Brian Gerrish they tell the true story of whats going on behind those closed doors.

It was a case of 'needs must'. If Jay needed his car urgently then this was the best thing to do.

Now he knows about the Forum and the help available I'm sure he will think twice next time. ;)

Just out of interest Jay, is the Cam Belt change up to date? This is very important, have you any service history with the car? If in doubt then get one of the guys to come down and change it. :y

Simon that is next to be done I have no record of it being done even though she has a full dealer ship service history.
Even though the garage I purchased her from has given me 12 months warrenty on the belt it still concerns me and in my mind would be a false economy to eek out those 12 months cause if it goes its just gonna give me grief.
Hopping to get James down to do it very soon he's pm'd me and is more than whilling to do it plus I'll keep the tea flowing and bacon rolls coming in and pass him his surgical instrements as needed, I'll even throw in a visitors permit so he can park all day in kingston for free.
