Omega General Help / Re: Climate control issues

Is the scuttle drain blocked and filling with rain water?

Ron.

Quite possibly!  Our last Omega had a problem with a leak causing damp rear carpet on the passenger side and that was traced to a blocked drain.  But I never thought that could have caused  this problem..... Well, yes maybe the humidity, but could that be why the temperature on the display screen has gone haywire?

Anyway, I shall certainly check this out first..... And external temp sensor if needed.

Thanks!  :)

Omega General Help / Climate control issues
« on: 11 November 2014, 13:58:56 »
I drive an 03 plate Omega 2.2 CD estate...... I drive it, fill it with fuel, check the tyre pressure and fill the water bottle - that pretty much sums up my knowledge of cars :D. I usually ask hubby things, but he doesn't know so......I'm asking the experts....!

A few months ago I noticed the outside temperature shown on the display screen was plummeting and within a few minutes it read -40c before an E appeared.  It rectified itself the next time the engine started and was fine for a short while before going wrong again and it has been like this for weeks... It usually hovers a few degrees below zero.  The main problem as a result of this is that it gets very steamy in the car, not hot, but all the windows steam up and drops of water build up and run down the inside of the windows.  I need to have the blower on the front screen on full and still the top part of the screen remains misty.  It doesn't clear on long journeys either, just gets worse.  Having the windows open is the only thing that helps, but makes it cold and noisy in the car.  The heater still works and it is possible to control how much heat comes into the cabin, so I don't think the steaminess is because it's hot inside and cold out.  Not sure if there maybe a connection, but also the sunroof randomly opens and closes - not constantly, just now and again.

does anyone have any ideas what it might be, or what kind of place we could take it to..... Does this sound electrical or mechanical?  I asked a mechanic we know and he asked around, but he said no-one had come across it before.  I would rather avoid taking to a dealer because of the cost, but will if needs be.

Thanks

Jane

Oh!!  :(  it doesn't sound good.  Thanks for the replies though.  I just have a few more questions......

  • Ours is a ccr2006 unit.  I have looked at replacements and they show Phillips on them, whereas our says Siemens.  Does this matter?
  • I've seen a couple where they are for sale including the screen and it says because there is the screen no code is required - is that right?
  • If we're able to find a CDC3 for sale, does that need to have a code?  If so, how does that work if we replace our faulty one because that would have a different code (i.e. our existing code for the radio) - if that makes sense!?

I love my Elite - our new car is nice, but it just isn't the same..... mind you, fuel consumption is better  ;)

Hi - first posting here  :)

We have just bought a 2003 Vauxhall Omega dti estate, which is in excellent condition for its age.  Not a lot wrong with it that we can see and the seller seemed very genuine.

I put a couple of CDs in the CD player (it has a 4 CD cassette).  It played the first CD through to the end, then the second CD started missing parts of the song (not stopping & starting).  I took it out and cleaned the CD, but still wouldn't work properly.  So I tried to play the first CD again and it just kept saying Error.  I put a CD cleaning disc in to the player a few times to clean it, but still nothing.  In frustration I left it to my husband to sort ou  ;D.  He put 4 different CDs in the cassette and all played as it should.  Today I swap one of the CDs for a different one and it starts to play - part way through it starts missing bits of the song.  Again I've tried cleaning the CD, moving it to a different slot in the cartridge and now it says Error.  In fact now 3 of the CDs (all of which were playing ok) are saying Error.  This is a real pain as I need a CD player for my work.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong and what I could try next?

As a last resort....... we bought this car to replace our aging Vauxhall Omega Elite which we are in the process of selling.  It has the 6 CD cassette mounted in the boot.  From my very non technical point of view I wouldn't have thought the two systems were compatible, but could we use the one from the old car and link it to the one in the new car?

Thanks in advance

Jane
