Omega General Help / Re: sumps for V6's

If the FWD (Vectra?) sump you have is alloy and not damaged, I will swap you an Omega one................with the wide front end ?

Omega General Help / Re: Revolutions per minute ?

I have actually had several Herald/Vitesses, so the alledged bad handling is not a new thing to me at all. Actually, I think its one of those tales which has got better with the telling.

They ARE unforgiving at the very limit, but provided you follow the golden rule of finishing your braking before the turn, and never EVER let off the throttle in the bend, you will be fine.

One of my previous Heralds had a Rover V8 with an "almost" standard rear end, and it was not a problem. Because of the low diff ratio its top speed was only 80mph, but it got there quick !

Hi Kevin

I am going to fit it into a Triumph Herald, and am just getting the parts together to do it. I have got an Omega 2.5 engine, and also a Vectra version as well, and will have to make a suitable engine from bits of both in order to make it fit. I could get a 3 litre instead, but as the Herald will only weigh 2/3 rds of an Omega,I think it will be enough !

Biggest problem for me is going to be the electronics, as I dont yet know what I will need to make the engine run out of its orignal home, closely followed by the intake system. I know I can make the engine run without the multi rams, but I am concerned as to how much torque and power will be lost.

Sounds like a good solution for the speedo problem though !

All Omegas have an electronic speedo. The signal to drive this comes from the ABS / Traction control ECU and is derived from the signals from the ABS wheel sensors.

Not sure about the gear ratios I'm afraid.

Kevin

Thanks for the replies guys ! That helps a lot in my calculations..............

But by what Kevin says, would I be right in saying that there is no sensor or take off in the gearbox itself relating to speed ?

If thats so, its going to be difficult to overcome  :(

« on: 12 February 2008, 22:53:18 »
Can anyone out there tell me what RPM are when running at 70 mph in 5th in a manual gearbox 2.5 V6..............1998 or earlier please.

Also, do any of the manual gearbox omegas have a speedo cable.........or are they all electronic ?

I don't have a complete Omega..............only the engine and box in another car.................well nearly !

Probably not, but what about the oil filter ? Not tight, sealing ring missing/misplaced ?

Omega General Help / Could someone measure......................
« on: 02 August 2007, 19:37:11 »
Could someone out there with a 2.5 or 3.0 V6 measure the distance between the front of the front engine pulley, and the back of the multi ram flap thingy...................i.e, the gap between them.

Also, the distance from the front of the front pulley, to the FRONT of the multi ram assembly.

I am trying to work out haw much space I need to install it in my Triumph !

Many thanks.

Omega General Help / V6 engine problems ?
« on: 09 July 2007, 00:06:52 »
Before we start, I must say that I am installing a V6 into another completely different car..............so my questions might not be the usual kind !

I chose the Omega/Vectra V6 because it is physically quite small and, on paper, fairly powerful for its size, but, having read a fair bit of this forum, it would seem to have a lot of problems ?

I have got both a 2.5 and a 3.0 which had been removed because they made "knocking" and "rattling" noises. I have seen a lot of engines for sale which have supposedly mechanical faults, and I am wondering if this is a particular problem.

What I would like to know at this stage, is..................do they actually have any common known mechanical problems (not getting into electronics just yet) I know about the leaking oil cooler, and the leaking cam covers, but is there anything else ?

Main/big end weakness ?

Head gaskets blowing?

Cam wear ?

Oil pump failure ?

Throwing pistons/con rods ?

You get the idea...........Or is it due to neglected maintainance in a lot of cases.

Thanks everyone. Nothing top secret about it, I am installing it into a Triumph Herald.............At the moment I am just collecting the bits. I have already got both a 2.5 and a 3.0 V6, but both of them are scrap due to alleged head gasket and main/big end bearing problems. However, I am of the opinion that the problems have not been diagnosed properly. I am yet to strip them though.................
