Just as an add on to the initial post, I just got a OBD2 reader that gives 'live' sensor readings and today, a warmish afternoon, the coolant temp was showing (on the reader) from 75c at a low throttle 30mph going up to 91c in a traffic jam ? The cooling fan comes on and goes off at what seems like normal regularity. does this sound normal 
also as I am currently running on water only would this make the car run hotter or cooler than with the recommended 50/50 antifreeze mix? thoughts please !!

My problem is that the engine is running ok but it seems to be very hot, when you get out the heat comes from under the car! the temp guage is not working and i am concerned that the prevoius owner has disabled it to hide this fault! The engine pressurises the coolant very much as well. The enine Cooling fan cuts in and out apparrently normally and sometimes runs on for a while after stopping. As stated the engine runs well apart from this disconcerting problem, yes im thinking head gaskets here, which will render the car scrap, costwise ! sometimes i get a small fluid leak from under the n/s/f bumper but its not often? ive flushed the rad and system with redflush but what came out was pretty clean . any ideas ?

Hi Ive just read the sticky on paint codes and it has got me totally confused (well Halfords got me really confused to start with!)
I've got a 2001 omega estate 2.6 and the colour code is Z20M which according to everyone is 'petrol blue', however mine is nothing like petrol blue, it's a sort of dark turquoise blue/green colour. it hasn't been resprayed or anything, the girl in Halfords was adamant that the colour was right (until she went outside to check it out !!) any ideas? I know its not a special colour as I have seen other vauxhalls in the same shade. Phoned my VX dealer and quoted Z20M and got told 'petrol blue'?

Hello again, my facelift 'y' reg 2.6 estate has a temp gauge that is neither working or illuminated, is there the faintest chance that this could be as simple as a loose connection behind the cluster? Or do I have to fit a new sender? Any thoughts? Cheers,Col

Hi can anyone telll me how to remove the wood effect trim from around the radio/switches on the centre stack of my 'y' reg omega? ive found the 2 top screws that free off the top of the trim but cant find any at the bottom ? is it clipped in or are the fixings behind the ashtray? help !!!

Hi everyone, I just got a 'y'reg 2.6 estate yesterday and upon trying the CCD2006 found that it wasn't working (well, I suppose it the whole front of the unit comes off in your hand that is classed as not working !!) anyway, I am swapping to a single din head unit i already have and after buying the fascia adapter and taking out the old unit I discovered that the plug from the wiring loom is a larger 3 section ISO type which wont fit into the radios standard double block socket ? i assume that the extra bit is for the steering controls or the display? what options do i have? I'm not particularly fussed about steering controls if it's going to cost a bomb. ANY ideas folks?
