Omega General Help / Help!! Need to rent a timing kit ASAP please!!
« on: 28 December 2012, 12:09:59 »
Hi all. Has anyone got a timing tool kit I can rent for a day?!

After 2 attempts of getting the timing wrong I'm at wits end! All the marks are on perfect but now the car is down on power big time... Ticks over perfectly at 500rpm, revs up fine. Put it on the road and it's totally gutless :(

Can anyone help?!

Thanks in advance, Pedro

Doesn't mean it's working though. Blip the throttle violently and watch the valves move... Or not. Tother is back of plenum, right side. Check all the vac pipes are connected, no hissing.

Timing is also possible. As is blocked exhaust.

Blocked exhaust as in full of water still?! Very possible as when the head went the water was pouring out like a waterfall! Plus the exhaust is still steaming up when it gets hot...

Vac pipes are all on and checked for leaks.

Just feels like the cars down on power... Engine is running sweet, all the noise is there when you hit the power pedal but it dies down a bit mid-range on the revs. Low end torque seems to have picked up though, could the timing be slightly out?!

Hi guys. Just wondering if I've got this right as my hose had perished away plus I'm not 100%...

There's the 2 vac lines that go down to the box with big n small hoses and the T-Piece is going into the DooDaa on the bagpipes. Then I've got the the white vac line looping round the wotsit and back into the thingamajig...

Thanks in advance, Pedro  :y

General Car Chat / WooHoo!! Head Gasket Sorted, Beast is BACK :D
« on: 20 August 2012, 09:50:12 »
Well, after almost 6 weeks of dragging my feet I finally told myself "Get on with it!!"

After 2 days of chaos the Heads are done and she's back on the road with a full service, new coilpack, cambelt, water pump, port n polish and a few other bits n bobs...

Running good as gold, not a single tap to be heard and it also runs a bit cooler than before  8)

Now there's nothing left to do apart from giving it a good clean, possibly a 4.22 rear diff and enjoy driving  ;D

Port n Polishing is massively under-rated. Might do mine whilst I've got the heads off  :y

Mine's sat on a big fat set of 19's (265/35/19) , dropped 40mm... Had zero issues so far but it was like it when I bought it so don't know how the handling's been affected... Holds tight in the corners and still very torquey for a fully loaded beasty!!  :y

are all the diff casings the same size ? ie. 3.7 3.9 4.2 etc
if so, could the CWP set from a 4.2 be fitted to a LSD ?

Watching this space ^^^  :)

Hmm... Can't seem to find whether this 4.22 diff is from a Petrol or Diesel... Anyone in the know available to enlighten us?!

Omega General Help / Re: 3.0 MV6 Manual - Engine Removal
« on: 19 July 2012, 18:17:36 »
Mostly common sense tbh. Unbolt propshaft, then remove gearbox unless your planning to lift it out with the engine anyway,in which case unplug (3 iirc) electrical plugs from box.Next unbolt exhausts from manifolds.
Then move to the engine bay - start at the rear of the engine and work your way round disconnecting the electrical connecters, fuel pipes, coolant hoses, vacuum pipes, and unbolt engine mounts.Remove bagpipes (big black plastic lump at front of engine),and maybe remove rad in case it gets damaged by the engine swinging on the hoist.Once youve lifted the engine a couple of inches, stop and check that you havent overlooked something which should have been disconnected before yanking it out.
Its a good idea to have someone with a camera taking pics as you go,as it makes it easier to put it all back. :y

Awesome mate, cheers. Just what I wanted to hear. I've just come from the world of the Celica GT4 where things aren't so straight forward lol

Any idea how long it "should" take me? Bear in mind I've access to a full garage with ramps n cranes etc...

Thanks again, Pedro  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Turbo help. not getting anywhere

I *might* have a brand new turbo here that I could let you have.  We'd need to check the numbers stamped on them to confirm.

It would be a bit more than £200 though.  :y

Can't argue with Brand New!!

I'd of said buy yourself a rebuild kit. Usually more reliable on the diesels but since you've left it so long you won't get away with it now!
Surely there's a breaker or 2nd hand one floating about?!

BTW, one question you must ask - WHY did your turbo go in the first place? How many miles had it covered?!
The way turbos are designed is so they never go unless pushed beyond usual limits or they're out of balance...

Judging by what you've said about the blades spiking off the compressor walls I'd say your oil seals are shot too so all your air intake pipes will be full of oil and need draining/flushing out. Also all sensors and breathers will need flushing... The joys of turbos!!  :D

Then again, you may already know all this and I may be waffling on for nothing!!

Good luck either way, Pedro  :y
