Omega General Help / 2.2 dti running like a bag of....
« on: 11 September 2012, 21:57:07 »
Hey guys. OK so here's whats happening:

Car won't start. Whilst being towed, in any gear, with clutch released, engine runs. When clutch is put down or cones to stop, car stalls. When engine is running I push on accelerator and no revs. Almost as if accelerator isn't doing anything.

So close to scrapping this heap. Was fantastic when bought but with recent turbo issues which are still happening, and now this, I want to turn it into my next washing machine.

All help is greatly admired.

Jack

I've bought a new turbo from twiglet on OOF, I'm now just wandering how hard is it to swap the two over?

Omega General Help / Re: dump valve
« on: 21 July 2012, 14:39:04 »
There used to be a kit you could buy,and it was operated by a micro switch on the gas pedal,so when you lifted off it used to operate the dump valve, was approx £100 .

OK thanks, any idea what they're called or where to look?

Omega General Help / dump valve

Hey guys, was just wandering, and not to be given any harsh words, but I'm wanting to fit a dump valve to my 2.2 dti omega.

I know you get a nice 'pssshhh' sound when letting lose on the gas or changing gear if you remove the air box just before the air flow cencor. However I want something a tad better and better sounding.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Omega General Help / Re: Turbo help. not getting anywhere

I'd of said buy yourself a rebuild kit. Usually more reliable on the diesels but since you've left it so long you won't get away with it now!
Surely there's a breaker or 2nd hand one floating about?!

BTW, one question you must ask - WHY did your turbo go in the first place? How many miles had it covered?!
The way turbos are designed is so they never go unless pushed beyond usual limits or they're out of balance...

Judging by what you've said about the blades spiking off the compressor walls I'd say your oil seals are shot too so all your air intake pipes will be full of oil and need draining/flushing out. Also all sensors and breathers will need flushing... The joys of turbos!!  :D

Then again, you may already know all this and I may be waffling on for nothing!!

Good luck either way, Pedro  :y

The chappy who had the omega before me ran it for a while with little oil, this is why it happened. Thanks for the help though :-) I'm just about to call some breakers.

Omega General Help / Turbo help. not getting anywhere
« on: 19 July 2012, 16:43:07 »
Hey girls and guys

OK so I'm having big problems with a turbo issue.

My current turbo's on its way out. The bearings are gone and blades scraping the housing. So I need a new turbo. However, cannot find one.

My questions are as follows
* is there any other turbo that would fit my engine*?

* where could I find a replacement for my turbo? I don't want to spend much more than £200

* is there a cheap fix for my current turbo?

* if there is anyone in or near Weston-super-Mare that could help me, would you?

Thanks in advance for all help

Jack

* Engine = 2.2 DTi (Y22DTH or DTR)

dont know but would this help?    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Turbo-Charger-98-99-Frontera-2-2-DTi-/330654271211?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cfc87c6eb

That would have been fantastic but says some movement in turbine (which is the problem with mine, now it sounds as though a child is screaming under my bonnet when I accelerate due to the blades hitting the housing).

Wish this was easier haha

Thank you anyway  :y
what about this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-FRONTERA-SWB-2-2-DTI-BREAKING-TURBO-/251086721864?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a75ef5348

Thanks again! :y

Omega General Help / starting problems
« on: 07 July 2012, 00:21:12 »
Hey guy and girls! OK so my omega 2.2 DTi CD has a slight problem waking up, almost as if its acting like a teenager having to wake up for school. Whenever its left for more than 30 minutes, I let the glow plugs warm up then try to start her. It then starts, struggling, then stalls.
Turn the key to start again and tries to turn over but doesn't start unless I have my foot firmly on the gas for about 15 seconds, it then struggles to gain revs but when it does, its fine for the whole jeorney.
If I'm parked facing up hill it takes longer to start up. Such a weird scenario, but hey, cars will be cars.

Any help muchly appreciated

Thanks!

Jack.

All of your replies are brilliant, however. Still not completely sure if it is my turbo going nuts or a boost leak or something  :-\

The turbo is howling, like someone screaming under my bonnet and its definitely commingle from the turbo. A mechanic told me its called howling turbo which means its on its way out. Plus I've lost 40% of all power especially at lower revs

I'm hoping you're going to tell me its not on its way out  :y

Omega General Help / 2.2 DTI *Turbo* need help
« on: 06 July 2012, 19:47:50 »
Hey guys and girls! So my turbo on my 2.2 DTI is about to go *kaboom*. Not literally but its going to die soon.

I cannot find any cheap replacements and thought to myself "if I'm going to change the turbo, is there another turbo that will work on my engine?"

If its possible I'm looking for more power, I'm 21, self explanatory

If anybody could help me I would be extremely grateful.

Unfortunately my turbo is about to go so am going to start a thread about it. Lots of information I need :-)

So, Hello! Am very excited to be part of, what I've heard, a fantastic community!
