Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / Re: Hampshire Meet in 2012
« on: 25 January 2012, 14:20:13 »
Hi All

Need to find a friendly pub or Cafe with a good sized car park. I also belong to a local motorcycle club and meetings tend to have no structure- just turn up and chat about your vehicles or anything else.

I live in Havant and would be up for a meet somewhere

Omega General Help / Flat Batteries and winscreen misting
« on: 21 January 2012, 15:43:55 »
Hi

Had my 2.5 Tourer estate for 6 years now and its slowly dying of tin worm. I want to transfer the LPG system to another vehicle, which seems likely to be another omega and have a couple of question about niggling issues with my Omega over the years and wondered if they are perculiar to my vehicle or Omegas in general:

1: Battery goes flat if left standing for more than about a week. I have fitted a solar charger onto the battery but this only delays the time before the battery goes flat, does not prevent it. New battery has been fitted and the car has always been like this but has become more noticalble recently due to a change of job meaning the car is not used much during the week.

2: Windscreen misting up in wet weather when car is standing. If I go out somewhere and leave the car for about an hour or more the inside of the windscreen and sometimes the whole car  will be misted up and take a while to clear. Car is not damp and carpets etc are all dry so no apparent water leaks. Can have happened when I go to the car to go out. Car is parked on driveway and not under cover.

If I transfer the gas system the car will become scrap so will be broken for spare.

Any thoughts gentlemen?

Omega General Help / Re: Misfire under load- 2.5 V6
« on: 17 March 2009, 09:22:46 »
An update on this problem.

LPG issues due to corrosion on the connector plug to the ecu. Required a new ecu and new lpg wiring loom- Ouch!

With regard to the misfire, which returned in the wet snowy weather, the following was carried out.
Changed the dispack first which made problem worse. Then changed plug leads and plugs and found problem- Two broken plug caps!!!

Alll was fine before it went to the dealers to have the cambelt and new plugs fitted. Misfire was evident from the moment it came back from the dealers. Dealer failed to find the problem when it went back to them after I complained about the misfire.

Also the plugs that were taken out looked like they had done a considerably higher mileage than the few hundred they would have done between when they were "fitted" by the dealer and when they came out again.

Draw your own conclusions, but I have ben in touch with trading standards and will be taking the matter further as it cost around £600 in parts and labour to resolve a problem that wasn't there before the dealer changed the plugs.

Might be that as the LPG system has packed up the misfire is no longer being amplified by the LPG system and its now just about coping...I will bet if you get the LPG system working again it will go back to misfiring!
Before the LPG packed in it was, the misfire was present both on LPG and petrol- I checked that by switching between the two in case it was connected with the LPG system

Update on problem- cured itself after a couple of long trips up the motorway (40 miles +). Misfire has now gone so I can only assume it was a bit of crud on a plug.

Downside is the LPG system has packed up so back to the installer for that one.

Had that problem in the past- changed the rocker covers to solve it.

Only problem before the new cambelt and plugs was an occasional slight misfire when the weather was damp. Only happened now and then again at low revs under load. Now it is a constant problem

Omega General Help / Misfire under load- 2.5 V6
« on: 13 January 2009, 15:46:44 »
Had a new cambelt fitted on my 2.5 V6 at the main dealer just before Christmas and got them to put a new set of spark plugs in at the same time.

Ever since it has had a slight misfire under load, mainly below 2000rpm which is worse when the engine is fully warmed up. It misfires both on petrol and lpg in a similar manner.

Took it back to the dealer who did a diagnostic check  (£50) which came up with no fault codes. All they could suggest was to change the leads and dis pack, charge me £600 for the parts with no guarantee that the problem would be solved.

The plug leads have only done 40,000 as they were changed last time the cam belt was done and there were no problems prior to its recent visit to the dealer. I still have the previous leads as they were not found to be the cause of a problem at that time. (It was LPG related)

My starting point would be the plugs and possibly the purchase of another new plug and replace each one in turn but any other thoughts or helpful comments would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Re: Secondary Coolant Pump
« on: 06 March 2008, 19:58:21 »
Thanks for the help guys. Problem seems to have been caused by a faulty diverter valve that feeds the heater matrix.
Secondary pump is fine.
Having replaced the Rad, thermostat, pump and secondary pump and now the diverter valve, I don't think there is anything alse apart from the heater matrix to go!!

I've just noticed you have LPG, the plumbing for that taps into the coolant circuit. Has it always run hot, could the LPG vapouriser be strangely plumbed?

LPG conversion was done when I got the car 3 years and 40,000 miles back. Everything was fine until early summer last year when it started to run hot in town. Had the rad and thermostat changed and found that the stat wasn't opening fully. This improved the situation but didn't totally cure it. Comiong into winter I found that the heater output was almost non- existant and it kept switching off LPG back to petrol so decided to change the water pump as a precaution. Took it back to the guy who did the LPG conversion so he could check that over at the same time. The LPG playing up was connected to poor cooolant flow as the LPG due to where the LPG sensors are.
Whilst in the garage they found that the secondary coolant pump had failed so replaced it. Everything was then fine for a few weeks. LPG system behaving itslef, no overheating even in traffic and loads of heat in the cabin- lovely.

After a couple of weeks it started to overheat in traffic again and the heater output has reduced until now it is barely warm. LPG system is taking longer to switch in and has started to cut out again at speed.

I'm assuming that the secondary pump has failed agin but why? It's only been in the car for about 6 weeks. Is it just a faulty part or is there something else that can cause premature failure?

If your secondary pump is the one mounted top right of radiator, when standing in front of the car, I believe that only runs after shutdown to cool the heads.

Is the overheating during running, how high is the temperature, do your front fans run when A/C compressor is running?

It's the pump by the header tank. Temp stays around 95 degrees with AC running (but it's cold at this time of year with no heater). With AC off the gauge goes up to 100 before fan cuts in and brings it back down. At speeds of above around 40mph there is enough airflow to keep gauge at 95 or just below. At lower speeds temp rises until fan cuts in at 100 degrees.

Pump was replaced in mid Jan (pump from main dealer at around £100) and everything was fine for a couple of weeks. I am just wondering if I'm unluckly with a faulty part or if there is something else that can cause these pumps to fail

Omega General Help / Secondary Coolant Pump
« on: 24 February 2008, 20:45:37 »
Had a cooling problem with my 98 2.5 V6 Tourer which got hot in traffic very easily. Electric fan cuts in, brings temp down but then it heats up again and the cycle continues.
At speed, temp stays OK. Heater output was poor and LPG system kept switching back to petrol.

After changing the rad, water pump and temp sensors problem traced to secondary coolant pump which was then replaced.

Problem solved for all of 2 weeks. Temp started to creep up in traffic again and heater output got worse. On a trip back from Gatwick on Friday heater output barely warm and engine gets too hot at low speed.
I suspect that the secondary pump has failed again but am I unlucky with a rogue part or is there something that can cause these pumps to fail?
Help!

Omega General Help / Re: omega 2.5 poor heater in cabin
« on: 15 January 2008, 12:23:31 »
Same problem- just discovered it's the secondary coolant pump, having changed the water pump already and flushed the heater matrix!.

Symptoms were poor heat output from heater, a tendency to overheat in traffic (although the radiator fan cut in to bring temp down again) and for it to keep switching back to petrol from LPG especially in cold weather.
The coolant pump is over £100 from vauxhall dealers I've just been told.

Hope this helps

just had my car converted and so far so good but just wanted to know from someone who has converted how does the pump know when to stop putting gas in I have a 59 litre tank and it stops at 45 i know they are supposed to have a certain amount of space what is the %.
Also my car averaged about 27 mpg now its 21 i thought the new lpg systems where more or less the same as petrol??

Hi There

Had my 2.5 V6 converted two years ago. Pump stops automatically when filling. It based on pressure. You will here a slight "clunk" and the rate of fill will slow down. You can keep going until the pressure equalise and it stops altogether but this wears out the filling pump. Amount of fill depends on pressure in garage tank.

Hope this helps
