Welcome to the site :)

I'm guessing its actually a 1997 car (open head restraints, no steering wheel stereo controls, no side airbags), hence not adjustable column.  An adjustable column can be fitted with scappy parts though.

To find out if it is a 97 car....  ....if the last letter in the VIN (7th from last digit) is a V, its a 97.

Yes spot on.First registered in jan 98.No doubt a special edition run out model to clear the old stock.

Hi people ,just signed up tonight. Just Found myself A lovely dark met green one owner full history 103k miles 98 2.0 16v auto special edition tourer. Its seems quite rare with light charcoal cloth with diagonal broken red green and blue stripes and carbon look fillets in doors and round gear lever. Also has them CD/elite five spoke alloys. Plenty of kit, leccy tilt slide roof, seats, front windows, mirrors MID display and it all  works.Massively impressed with it .Doesn't seem to have adjustable column though which seems a bit odd.
 Great site :y
