Omega General Help / Re: Airbag light & accident advice needed
« on: 29 April 2008, 16:30:09 »
Thanks for all your quick responses.
Lizzie Zoom, cheers for the encouragement, I normally would take them on, but just dont fancy a fruitless game of, litigattion letter ping-pong, just  now.

Skruntie, I  did originally think this was the case so I wrote to the CEO.  The Executive office who are more polite than their claims dept, are also agreeing with their engineer.
They state as they werent involved in the accident repair and are so "in a somewhat compromised position"

Kevin, I wil find out from the garage what the code is and post back, but are you aware, techincally that is, if there are any sensors which could make this occur.  As the garage was saying, maybe the insurance company's qualified engineer knows for definate from the sensor/switch positions this could definatley not be caused by the incident.

Omega General Help / Airbag light & accident advice needed
« on: 29 April 2008, 14:24:45 »
More advice needed im afraid fella's.

Some months ago a careless BMW delivery driver drove me off the road causing me to slam my omega onto a raised pavement.
The subsequent damage was to my two front tyres, also requiring  two new wishbones  & a new stabiliser arm. The Airbag light also came on.

As it happened the crazy driver who appears to make a habit of night driving without lights or indicators shares the same insurance company with me.

Initially the insurer messed me about, so i had the car repaired at my own cost & then claimed the invoice value back from the insurer.
The garage did warn me he wasnt sure if he could make the Airbag light dissappear.  But I needed the car back on the road asap so told him to go ahead.  After driving it a round a few times it kept illuminating, & so said garage would use tech 2 to clear the light but it would reappear.

Now my insurer are saying this Airbag light fault was not  a consequence of my encounter with the raised pavement & was probably a coincidence or unrelated according to their engineer.  He has based his decision on seeing the Estimate and Invoice and without ever inspecting the car, claiming
".. the vehicle only has only sustained light damage to the suspension it could not have interfered with the airbag or its electric's."

I some knowledgeable peops on here need to tell me if there any sensors or w.h.y. which could have made this airbag light illuminate once I whacked it on  the kerb.
It was a pretty heavy whack, but fortunately my good ole omega is as solid as ever.  I mean, just trying to keep the car on four wheels resulted in a hairline fracture to my wrist, which was in a sling for 3 weeks.

Is it worth getting an independant engineer involved, or should I just take the insurers decision  on the chin?

hi,i have 1995 omega estate,v6.engine has gone really noisy, dad thinks it water pump but sound like its coming from some pulleys and a belt thing, please help me [smiley=sad.gif]

Definately worth checking it out properly buddy, as Chris advises.
My first omega had a water pump problem & the cam belt snapped on third lane of motorway, luckily with little traffic at the time of the evening i managed to veer on to hard shoulder.  The result was then a £1586 bill from my local friendly Vauxhall dealershiit, I mean ship.

Problem Sorted :D

The Genuine cam sensor has done the trick, the EM light is off now & the car is running ok again.
The car also revs over 4500rpm now without misfire.
Now ive just to get get rid of the airbag light!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. Much appreciated.

Just an update:
I bought a genuine cam sensor today & left it with the garage to fit tomorrow, hopefully should have some luck with this.

I did read on here somewhere though about revving the engine over 4500 rpm to see if it misfires & which apparentley means cam sensor isnt doing its job, or something like this?

I gave it a few go's on my Omega and sure enough she does cough & splutter just over 4500, but the mechanic says its because they engine has a 'cut out' which kicks in to avoid the engine blowing.  But no idea myself what any of this means.

Two questions

1) Were they good quality genuine sensors?

2) Did they look at the cam sensor postion when re-fitted as some cheaper ones have a bit of slop in them.

I assume the cam belt tension is correct.

Some of the cheap crank sensors are also a sloppy fit and can give such symptoms

Thanks for all your quick responses.
Mark the timing kit and the crank sensor are genuine but the cam sensor was from a motor factors near to the garage.

However, the cam sensor did look ok & came with the modification sensor plug, although my omega already had the rounded plug fitted.
The mechanic has cleared the codes a few times with the Tech2 but the EM light comes on straight after starting the car.

He actually adjusted the cam belt tension before replacement of the sensor & the enitire timing kit, but the EM light was still illuminating.
He's stumped himself & is suggesting an Auto electrician as my car is taking up garage space.  Im avoiding this as it could mean 'open circuit', I mean Wallet surgery!
I think he'll continue helping if I can come with possible solution, hopefully from this forum.

Should I buy a genuine cam sensor & see if that makes a difference?

hi again,

On my 2.0 16V 1998 X20XEV omega the engine management light is illuminated.  The friendly neighbourhood garage attached his Tech2 & displayed the above fault code.

He changed the cam shaft sensor, & adjusted the timing belt but the light stubbornly stayed on.  So I got him to renew the crankshaft sensor as well & replace with a new timing belt kit.  The light refuses to go off & the car still sounds poorly.  The mechanic seems pretty stumped, but from reading on the forums & past problems, Im beginning to wonder if this could be an earthing fault?
I am not any kind of tecchie, but after disconnecting the plug that attaches the Random  alarm sounder, it still goes off!  Ive no idea how this could be but this only happens when it rains.

Any kind of supporting help from other Omega survivors is really needed plz.  I desperatley want to keep the car, but its fast becoming a bottomless money pit :(

Has anybody had any similar type of problems at all?

Omega General Help / Re: a unique alarm problem!

... probably a unique problem, but only to Omega owners me thinks.
Drove past an erratic Omega owner today on the dual carriageway with his powersounder hooting away & a red faced missus in the passenger seat mouthin who knows what to him  ::)

fyi, I removed my powersounder cable under the scuttle ages ago, but it still goees off sometimes.
I notice that after a few days of sitting/driving in rain the Random phantom powersounder begins, not techie enough to work out whats goin though  :-?
