now getting fault code 74 ..air flow sensor...

runs fine uless i give it some then as you slow down you can feel it getting lumpy and it will cut out if the revs drop to low...if you can be gentle with it then it will recover until the next time you take it up to 4k revs...even take it up to 4k in the drive and it will cut out when you take your foot off..but the engine warning light is not coming on apart from when its stopped...

is it also know as the maf?...which vauxhall want over 300 for???....

or can i get one some where else?....

tnx mark

still fighting with this one...
it loads better but...last week when the fuel was low it did not want to start..just whizzing over...like no fuel...switched it of and tried again and it slowly started.....done the nor..i.e. gave it a big rev up...cleared again...

tonight was running nicely....

so thought lets see what it pulls like in sports mode....pulling very strong....take sports mode off coasted up to juction..revs dip to 500...then thats it cutting out again....if i keep the revs over 1500 i can get going again...cuts out 3/4 times..so red lines it as getting anoyed now...problem cleared again until tomorrow i guess....

so far....
new fuel filter..fuel pump relay...air filter..cam gaskets...plugs...cam/knock sensor (near oil filter)...icv flushed/cleaned with carb cleaner...

defo seem more fuel related now or complete loss of spark...?????

doing my head in now....much more and its going...

any ideas????

tnx mark..

dam nearly got caught out at the local vauxhall dealers :o

asked for a cam cover gasket, to which the reply was they dont do one you have to buy the complete cam cover at 80+ quid! the polite reply was your joking but it was not what i was thinking ::)...but it was lucky as nil stock...

nipped into reading...asked if they did a cam cover gasket and yes sir we do at £26 but out of stock....so all parts should be in on saturday with a bit of luck...

dam near temped to phone the other one back >:( but dont think its worth waisting the energy....

dogey old game at times...

cheers mark

well it was better for a short while......

then worse!....i guess there must have been a sort of semi seal formed around the ht caps..which now is letting the oil in more....

so its now stripped out...only took an hour, i am impressed with myself there!....r/h bank i.e. 2-4-6 oiled again... interesting though it looks like it been apart and all cleaned up...so maybe cheap gaskets?...

while try to get to work this morning, it was trying it best to cut out, really misfiring so in the intrest of clearing it (auto box)i put it in 1st and floored it up to the red line then into second and off and..had a clear warning light..checked and code 74 ...i am gueesing here that with the r/h bank not being right and under the conditions this could be a bogus reading?..not a problem if not as about the easiest sensor to get at...lol....

now gona phone and track down parts and a lift to get them.... 50/50 weather to do the l/h bank even tough its not leaking...dificult as a firm beliver of if its not broke then dont fix it!!!!!give it a miss until next time????    ::)

tnx guys for all the info and help...gona change the fuel filter next...

BUT... might have found it...phoned a mate who has an omega..so we took the plugs out and yes..the r/hand bank has a rocker cover leak, which he had the same problem...the amount of oil in the plug wells was impressive all three where swimming in it...and of course it had to be the worst side to get at ::)

so it might seem like some of you guys got it... as now i dont trust it, we will see what happens over the next few weeks, i would say days but its caught me out before now a few times... :(

again many tnx to all for your help :y

will report back again in the future..

many tnx mark

well it managed a 200 mile round trip, but not happy..

could feel it missfiring and trying to cut out....lost a lot off pull..i.e. very flat...
the only thing i sort of found was when it start to die around 3k if you planted your foot down it would recover for another 20 mins or so....

at one time it would not pull at all....as floored it..and did not want to pick up at all...
and on the last 20 mins of a 2 hour run on the a/b roads had to put it in sports mode to get any pull...overall 15mpg with a 2 berth caravan... at 50 to 60 mph....

then on the way back at times if was fine after cutting out at a r/about and trying to die about 10 times... so it might have to go into the garage.....

anyone know of any good garages around the reading area?....

tnx mark...

still playing up....
the bits i have changed have made it better but not 100% right...

missfires around 2.5k...cuts out and does not like starting when its hot or cold at times...get it to catch and wind the revs up to the limiter some times cures it or it will do this 3-4 times..then booting it will clear...

did it today and managed to get some fault codes in a strange order...
flashing 12 (ok) do that 2-3 times then (13 and then 5? if i picked the revs up to the problem area of 1-2.5k while missfiring/lumpy) again 2-3 times and ...deffinate gap between the 13 and the 5 though! as the revs went back to tick over back to 12 only... :-?

moved trapped wires on co2 sensor but not tested, as cleared again now! ::)

so if any one wants a challenge or is bored you can work that one out for me :)

off drag racing this weekend with the van on tow....well thats if it makes it!...so look back in next week..

also mpg does seem to drop at times...but then i guess it would.

cheers mark...

just to let you know, it did not cure the problem in the long term. flashed out the codes and nothing. so just changed the crank sensor this morning (interesting little job, as it did not want to come out!.) took it for a short test drive of about 12 miles around local roads. reset the mpg to zero and it dropped into the 20's then came back into the 30's more than once!!!! never seen 30 mpg on local roads before. so its looking very positive at the minute.

so fingers crossed i might have fixed it at last.

cheers mark :)

tnx for the info guys...
trying the ICV first as its the easiest...cleaned it out with carb cleaner..a more positive return on the spring as much as you can tell....it was'nt caked but some carbon or simalar build up on the slide/port
run it up to hot this morning and running fine but not tryed it on the run...

cant find info of how to find the fault codes, so no input on that.....
mpg..seems much the same, 22/23mpg..as local lanes and driving around reading and basingstoke is not much of a help...it did drop a bit but that was me hitting the go peddle to clear it as has worked for a while in past, i would like to run it for a while a speed but want to keep my licence ::)

so will let you know how it performs at a later date after testing it...

tnx mark.. :y

Omega General Help / 3 ltr V6 elite problem.
« on: 27 July 2007, 14:05:04 »
hi all...
wonder if any one can help me....

my n reg 3 ltr V6 elite auto, has an intermittant fault....

starts fine every time when cold, but at times after doing about 5 to 6 miles or just as the temp is getting up to about 90+ deg, she will cut out as i slow right down for a junction etc... mainley after the revs drop below 1 to 1.5k. from this point its hard to start and when it does start you have to hold the revs up above 1.5k to keep it going, normally no missfire etc apart from yesterday i could feel it slighty missing now and then...in the last 3 days its cut out 3 times on a 15 mile run but normally just goes away, it stopped once at a round about today then fine after...bloody strange if you ask me...

any ideas

tnx pops :)
