Omega General Help / Re: Knocking(pinking).
« on: 10 August 2007, 10:03:19 »
I flushed and drained the cooling system and the water was quite clean.
The flushing made no difference to engine temp so I took out the thermostat and that made no difference either.

I have now wired the cooling fan to be on all the time and the temp has dropped to well below 90 degrees and no more knocking.

I'm thinking that either the knock sensor or ecu are at fault.

Omega General Help / Knocking(pinking).
« on: 05 August 2007, 03:53:30 »
Hi guys.
I own a 99 2.0 with 150000 on the clock and its a manual.
About 4-5 months ago it started knocking(pinking) so I fitted a new GM knock sensor and it cured the problem until now.
What's happening now is that it has started knocking again, not as bad as before and if I put my foot down I can drive through it.
It does not knock when I'm on my way home late at night, about 4am, even if I stay in 5th gear on windey hilly roads.

The temp normally stays at about 95 degress and sometimes creeps up to 97.5 in traffic until the fan kicks in and cools it down.
When I have the air con on it creeps up to 100 degress!, if I switch the air con off the temp falls.  When i,m on the motorway the coolest it runs is 94-95 degress.

The fuel economy has not been affected(25 mpg round town, 35-40mpg on a run)and there is no loss of power.  I had a look at the rad and noticed a few fins hanging off at the bottom and am wondering if I have a partially blocked rad?.  I have tried wiring the fan on all the time and this kept the temp to 94 degress, no lower.

It does not knock when I first start and drive it in the morning and am thinking the problem has something to do with the cooling system.

Any ideas?.
cheers.
