Hello all
I have a alternator  on my ol trusty Elite 98 2.5 16v that is noisey.  I suspect the bearings need to be greased/replaced.

Though looking on the forum i can find a great alternator how-to guide via http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=107049.msg1339441 however i require a step-by-step guide on changing the bearings once the alternator is removed.

As always, thx and happy crimbo all

Gents, thanks for the replies.

Re the 640 mins is that 640min of the radio turned on all the time or 640 mins radio on/off etc.

last but not least is this a common issue with the cd players?

I have a same/similar problem on a 98 Elite 2.5.

I have left the ignition on yet never get the prompt to enter in the CD code.  Is my cd player screwed?

Omega General Help / TC erratic idle and cut out
« on: 08 April 2011, 23:11:25 »
My car has recently start to cut out whilst driving.  The symptoms I seem not notice are as follows:
1- TC light comes on
2- When I slow down I notice the car struggles to accelarate.  I think this is called 'limp mode'
3 - Also notice idle counter erratic at standstill, from @700rpm to 1200rpm then back to @700rpm.
4 - Electric management system light comes on
5 ... shortly after the car will cut out, loss of power throughtout.

...leave the car turned off for 3-5 mins then the car will start again yet the same symptoms arrive shortly after.

However ... recently used the car and had no problems for 20 miles or so and then today went on a very short drive and the same problem arose again. Car cut our four times before I got it home

My cam sensor has recenlty been changed as my car did start to cut our every now and then and via tech2 error was low rpm hense sensor change.

Omega General Help / Re: Locked in Park (P)
« on: 27 August 2010, 19:58:10 »
Hi Welung666
Is the locking solenoid the 'part' (Rectangle shaped item) that pushes a small piece of metal forward when the brake is engaged, therefore dis-engaging the gear shift lever?

Car:
Omega Elite Estate
98 Plate

Problem
I cannot change out of Park (P) unless I remove the gaitor and dis-engage the locking mechanism via  a little 'yellow" plastic lever on the lower-left hand side of the gear shifter.

This problem has been intermittent and recently I have changed the brake switch (located behind the brake pedal) when the issue was intermittant however nothing improved.  Now the issue has become permanent.

Any thoughts/ideas on what the issue may be?

Thanks

Just to add some more colour to the issue it only seems to occur when I  attempt to start the car.  I have not had the issue in transit (at traffic lights, etc).

This could be circumstantial but also this may assist in the ascertaining the root cause.

Omega General Help / Locked in Parked position
« on: 15 May 2009, 20:08:51 »
Only recently I have found that when starting my car (1998 S Omega Elite Estate) the electronic 'system' will not release from Parked mode.   What I have to do is disengage the gear cover and release the yellow catch (left hand side of gear lever) to get the car into Driver/Reverse.

This has only started occurring during the past two weeks.  No history of issue similar prior, kinda has come out of the blue.

Has anyone got any pointers on this.

thx

Omega General Help / Re: Central locking
« on: 11 January 2009, 16:07:54 »
Gents,
One thing I have noticed then I manualy (via key of course) lock the car in the lock position all doors locked fine however when I unlock via the key all doors expect the same drivers side do does not unlock.  Is this a symptom of a solenoid failure or something else is going wrong somewhere.
thx

Omega General Help / Central locking

My car is a 98 Elite Estate.

The problem that has arisen is that the driver doors locking mechanism does not sync with the rest of the doors, ie if the car is looked I have to press the fob twice for the drivers door to unlock, yet once for the remaining doors.  Similar with locking.

I suspect the central locking may need some kind of reset (well that is what happened on my audi that has a similar issue anyhow)

Omega General Help / Re: Headlight washer pipe
« on: 03 September 2007, 13:37:39 »
Sounds like I need the extender plastic (tube) then.  The problem with tube I have is that it is cracks at the end of the tube hence the washer jet cannot clip on.

Do you know the extender tube can be purchased separately and also how would attempt to change the tube.  Is there a standard way of accessing the tube for those of us that are novice mechanics

It the part the connects onto the actual headlight washer jet.

You raise an intereting point though.  When I described what I wanted at my local vauxhal dealer they have provided me with a black hose approx 1m long however, the part that is damaged on the car is plastic. Is this the 'extender' piece that you refer to?
