Omega General Help / Re: 2.5TD non-starter

Yes but I have had it starting and running before with that injector disconnected.
Running with CEL light on and at greatly reduced power but still runs.

But it should still start with no 4 disconnected?

Have been out to it, wiring is ok and am getting 90 ohms when probing the relevant terminals at the ECU.

Have tried to start with no 4 disconnected, still won't start and just gives code 81 as well as 82.

A friend thinks that 82 could be related to the crank sensor but I think this is highly unlikely? Surely it wouldn't attempt to fire at all if the crank sensor had failed and would give a different code?

Have tried tow starting with no joy.

However it is now throwing a new fault code - 82.

Is this to do with the needle lift sensor or the crank sensor?

Thanks

I did not remove the quantity adjuster from the pump, just took off the top cover.

It should not have been able to alter the fuelling at all, but I am worried that my investigating has caused a problem with the pump.

My mate is coming over tomorrow to help check the system is bled and attempt a tow start. If that fails I will most likely weigh it in as a pump recon or replacement will cost considerably more than the car did.

Cracked the 5 injector lines I can access and am getting fuel at all of them.

My best guess is that it is probably down to air in the system - any tips on getting it out?

All leak off pipes have been replaced with new in the last 6 months.

I have cracked the 2 injectors that have been disturbed and am getting fuel there.

Although I'm now thinking that as the pump was partly drained there could be air in the other injector lines?

Hi all,
can anyone help with my problem?
My Omega failed it's MOT on a leaky injector. I have resealed 2 of the injectors yesterday, and also taken the lid off the pump to clean the position sensor in an attempt to solve fault code 64.
The car will now not start.
I have cracked the lines that were removed and I am getting fuel there.
I have taken the in tank pump out of the car and tested it, it is working fine and I can hear it coming on with the glowplug light and running for about another 5 seconds afterwards. There is about 20 litres in the tank.
The car sounds like its trying to fire but does not start.
What should I be checking next? Could there still be air in the system?

Thanks
Dave.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Head unit wiring
« on: 29 November 2012, 10:48:35 »
All sorted now, thanks for the help.

I swapped over the switched 12V and +12V and all is working ok.

Worth noting in case anyone has this problem in future that my switched 12V was not yellow, it is exactly the same shade of red as the +12V! Only yellow wire is a speaker wire.

Hi all,

My PFL Omega has an aftermarket head unit fitted. It is plugged in to the standard ISO connector.

All working fine except when the engine has been turned off it defaults back to the start of the CD, even if I have been listening to the radio!

Is there some wire or other I need to disconnect to sort this out?

It doesn't forget the radio stations stored so I'm presuming the +12V is fine.

Thanks.

In all honesty mate this was probably my fault.

I'd inspected the lift pump a week or two before and probably not connected it to the strainer properly.

I am now keeping my tank as full as I can but only because I now know there are still a few bits of crap floating around my tank.

Thanks very much.

Any ideas on the sensor on the fuel filter housing?

Thank you  :)

Any idea what sort of temp is normal? I'm guessing 90-95?

Omega General Help / Overcooling and temperature sensors
« on: 16 November 2012, 22:31:43 »
Hi all,

My TD omega seems to be running very cool, it rarely gets above 85 on the gauge even during prolonged standing in traffic.

I know the thermostat is the most likely culprit but I don't like replacing things unless sure they are faulty.

Where is the coolant temp sensor located and how can I test it? Does anyone have the resistance values it should give at different temperatures?

Also, what is the sensor that screws in to the fuel filter housing? Mine is in 2 bits so needs replacing.

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Re: Leaky injectors and fault code 64

The engine does not stall, there is just no response from the throttle until the EML goes off.

My understanding is that the actuator on the bottom of the pump is a timing control device.

I have found this pdf which is about the vw tdi engine, but the omega injection pump is just a 6 cylinder version of the tdi one.

If the timing control actuator was faulty surely the fault code would be more likely to be 34 - injector timing out of range?

The description of code 64 is fuel quantity control out of range, which to me suggests the fault is with the quantity control position sensor, (G149 modulating piston movement sensor in the linked pdf), which is just under the top cover of the pump.

All it will cost me to have a look is a top cover gasket so I will get round to it at some point.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 16 November 2012, 15:22:14 »
Fixed yesterday's breakdown, which was due to grit getting into the lift pump.

Also fixed the fuel cap central locking thingy which was out of alignment somehow. And fixed the number plate light (bulb).

Total cost for all the above - £0!

I do love fixing things for free.
