Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Level Sensor
« on: 13 May 2014, 22:53:52 »
Thanks - the thing never looses any water, and if I were keeping it I'd not worry about it, but I think it would be worth getting it fixed before the next owner has it.

Omega General Help / Coolant Level Sensor
« on: 13 May 2014, 17:46:27 »
Hi all

I've read quite a bit on here about the coolant level sensor in the header tank going pear shaped - and clearly mine has done this as the "coolant level" message has just appeared on the dash.  I checked the connection underneath and all good, so next job is to change it.

However, I was just wondering, is it possible to change or repair just the sensor, rather than having to shell out for a new bottle too? - not that I mind having to pay for a new bottle, but its flippin' typical it should need it as I have it up for sale.

Ta

Neil.

Hi OP

I had my 2.6 Omega cambelt and tensioners done by DA Vehicle Repairs back in November/December time - think it was about 280 quid or thereabouts.

I know the guy fairly well and can recommend him, so if you want his number, let me know and I will pass it on.

Sounds like rear shock failure to me. No damping at all.

I think this is what has happened to my 02 Elite Estate.

Mine feels like it bottoms out extreemly easily, and I am 99.9% sure it doesnt raise, nor can I hear the pump whirring away under the wing :-(

Hi All

I have a question - do all omega elites have this air suspension? - ours seems to sit at the right level and rides o.k, but it bottoms out pretty easily.

I could be wrong but I could have sworn I saw regular springs on the back of ours when I washed it, but maybe not.

Tbh, I bloody hope it doesnt have air suspension - the air suspension on our discovery TD5 is the stuff of my nightmares :-(

Neil.

Really, had no issues with mine other than replacing the bags which is easy ???

Airbags, height sensors, and currently on rebuilt pump number 3 (no, you still cant get compressor parts for the disco, so we've modified a p38 one)

still, all part of the fun, isnt it?!

In all fairness, its a great system when its working - it's just "challenging" on the brain when you are late for something, with 7 people in the car and the thing sinks to the ground on A1.

It is NOT "air suspension" .. it is "self levelling" suspension ... as said ... standard looking springs and shock absorbers  (although they are a different specification). The shocks have an air bladder that can be inflated to raise the back if a large load is placed therein.

The spring/shock still does most of the work, it is just "supported" by the additional air in the bladder.

I wouldn't be without it, as I tow a lot and it is highly beneficial. Those who don't tow and want to imitate Carlos Fangio or Colin McRae don't like it as the suspension is a good deal "softer"

To test if your has working self leveling, measure the distance between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch. Open the boot and stand two reasonably sized adults in it, make a note of the distance between the top of the rear wheel and the wheel arch, which should be much reduced. Turn the ignition on, you should hear the compressor in the front offside wheel arch start to run, and the rear of the car should rise to about the same as the first measurement. switch off, remove bodies from boot.. rear should rise even higher. Switch on .. rear should slowly drop back to the original height again

HTH  :)

Excellent information - thanks!

Ours does have a towbar, and I've wondered if it the bracket of the towbar scraping on the ground rather than the suspension banging on the bump stops.  Further investigation with your sugggestion will be commencing this weekend.

All Elites (I'm sure of) and some CDX cars (I think) have it - they still have regular springs, the air bladders are in the shock absorber body

oh, right - that explains things then, thanks.

I wonder if ours doesnt pump up much, which is why it bottoms out easily.  I'll have to do some experimenting at the weekend with it.

24valve - where in Bedfordshire are you?

Hi

I'm just slightly south of biggleswade in a small village called Edworth (SG18).  If I get the keys, can i come to you ( or whatever is easiest) to get it programmed?

Cheers all for your help,

Neil.

Thanks Both.

Perhaps going to Vauxhall wont be as expensive as I thought.  I'm pretty sure I have the car pass thing in the wallet, so that might help.

I'll give them a call later and see what the deal is.

Omega General Help / Newbie Omega owner and question
« on: 07 January 2013, 11:17:55 »
Hi All

Been lurking for a while and only now just registered, but thought it necessary since we've been the owner of an 02' omega elite estate (2.6) for the last month.

We bought it because we also have a land rover discovery, which my 11 year old labrador is struggling to get in and out of the back of, and this is doing the job just fine - in fact its absolutely perfect for our needs.

It's in pretty nice condition (no rust in the usual places) and its quite highly specced, with heated rear seats, black leather, bose stereo, Parking sensors, towbar, sunroof etc and wafts along o.k with the auto box.

Disapointingly (and the reason now for signing up) is that I didnt realise until I signed the documents and handed over the folding that it only has one key (the remote one), and after panicking last night because I thought I'd dropped the key in a field  :-[ I think its a good idea to get another one or two spares.

I've no worries on getting a physical key cut from my local key cutter, but I really want another remote fob, but am wondering if the fobs contain an immobiliser thing, and/or need programming.

So - where can I get another fob from and where/who can program it - either by sending it away to someone, or taking it somewhere?  I'd rather not use the vauxhall dealers if I can get away with it, but appreciate that if that is the only way, then so be it.

I'm sure I'll have many more questions soon!

Cheers Chaps

Neil.
