I keep seeing this problem coming up on this forum. My '99 3.0 had this problem, and a few weeks ago I took it to a local Vx dealer.

They said it was either breathers or warped rocker covers. The breathers turned out to be fine, so they replaced both rocker covers and this has cured the problem completely. It cost me £382, which was less than I expected. (The rocker covers are £81 each).

No, mine's got 100k, had no steam but lots of smoke at traffic lights from both sides of bonnet. quite embarrasing...

Here's the invoice...

£81 each, Wayne. £382 for my local (rural) Vx dealer to check breathers, replace rocker covers, seals and o-ring set.

Cured. :)

By the way, a larger Vx dealer quoted about £500............... :o

My breathers were fine. Rocker covers are prone to warping. Any number of new gaskets won't cure the problem.

Could be warped rocker covers. They're plastic and £81 each.

You can see heat shimmering up from the sides of the bonnet from mine at traffic lights, and it's very warm at the sides when you get out. I think it's normal as these engines tend to run a little warm....It doesn't go above 95c.

A friend of mine had the chain go on his twin-cam Sierra some years ago. He paid £700 to fix the mess. Silly boy, the car was worth less than that.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello.
« on: 28 August 2007, 18:53:52 »
Hi everyone,

I'm in Cambridgeshire and I have a 1999 3.0 Elite auto.

I've had it for 18 months, and it's the best motor I've owned.

I am missing it right now as it's sitting in the 'shop awaiting new rocker covers to cure a persistant oil leak. (BTW, it's breathing fine).

Have to go to work in the wife's 206.  :-[  :'(

I've been stuck in my wife's Pug 206 all week as my Omega is in the 'shop. Horrible.  :(

BTW, hello towerorgan, I'm a noobie too........ [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif]

Yes, they're Steinmetz alloys.

I didn't like them at first, but they've kind of grown on me now.

tunnie, they are Yokohama S306s, about £85+vat each if you know where to look....235/45/17 I think.

My left rear is getting a little low.........Must leave that TC button alone... ::)
