Omega General Help / Re: Diff questions
« on: 13 April 2014, 14:03:39 »
casing that'll bolt directly into an Omega A rear subframe ( i.e. Carlton ). So if you can find a Carlton or Senator subframe and the corresponding BTR diff ( Lotus Carlton, Holden Commodore or Monaro, or TVR since 1994 ) and some Monza driveshafts ( as the diff has output flanges ), you can build yourself a very robust alternative. That's what I have in the Omega A race car.

i supose this has been tried but i take it that the monza diff wont take omega driveshafts if the output flanges are removed??

Omega General Help / Re: Carlton LSD into a Omega

It is possible, but you have to build a modified subframe, welding the rear mounting arms that you've chopped off an Omega B subframe onto an Omega A subframe and then changing the donuts, plus of course putting up with a directly-mounted diff.

Hi, I got word of a back axle of a carlton with an lsd for sale, i just searched and found this topic here, i think il chance this conversion.. not afraid of the welder,  ;)
would there be any pictures floating around of it done before?? the donuts referenced would be the big rubbers to the front of the rear subframe? why have these to be changed.. im not familiar with the carlton back end.

thanks for any help.. any tips on what too look out for when going to buy the carlton back end,. ??

Omega General Help / Re: LSDS Casing numbers

What if you put some resistance against a moving wheel (carefully) e.g. hold a block of wood to the tyre?  I would expect that wheel to stop and the other start but if both wheels continue that's limited slip I would think.

Sorry for the thread hi-jaking on this  ::)

I jaked one side of the omega with supossed lsd fitted and selected first gear..ever so carefully/slowly with aid of someone watching let clutch up and the car tried pulling off with only one wheel on the ground... = lsd so it would seem?
also got both wheels to lock in a spin in a straight line but not in a circle.. il take out the diff some evening and look at the diff id plate, into it and see about getting it shimed.

Omega General Help / Re: LSDS Casing numbers

Hi all, have a scenario atm relating to lsd/non lsd diff,. was hoping someone on here could clear it up

I have 2 omegas:
One fitted with  standard diff
Other fitted with a diff out of a 3.2

I had thought the 3.2 diff I got was an lsd, but thought not when only one wheel would lock

After researching on here I see that lsds have two pins in the centre of the  slots for the shafts,  :y
So after removing a shaft I look down the hole to find 1 pin, therefore non lsd,.. :(

My question is:

When I have the rear of both omegas raised off the ground and first gear selected  in both:

One fitted with  standard diff spins only driver side wheel
Other fitted with a diff out of a 3.2 spins both wheels???  ???

Why would the 3.2 diff spin both wheels and not like the standard, I had thought this indicates lsd???

Different ratios? Or is the 3.2 diff an lsd and I just cant see the second pin?

Iv found a lad selling a carlton lsd so will go for it if I havent an lsd already..

PS.. love the site  8)
