Omega General Help / Re: Groaning
« on: 21 February 2017, 16:27:35 »
Could be the Steering Idler they seize up and groan like that when turning the steering.

Ok, reason I ask is without a speed pulse, the NcDc will alwys think you are stationary

Does SDVC work ok?

That is the automatic volume increase as you get faster right?

Some progress has been made! Thanks for the tip about using some hook like tool to pull the bottom metal bracket of the HU I used a pair of 90 Angle Cir-clip pliers to hook the unit out and with my improvised 2 din removal tools (4 small screw drivers shoved in) the unit came out easy.

In past few days the sat nav has given an initial direction from starting the car up but doesn't give any more after the 1st turn left or right instruction and then just gives me the compass pointer.
Here are a few more photos.

Photo of the Diagnostic of the BC taken with the engine running. This screen varied from 87% to 100% with engine off. Didn't take any photo while driving but none of the figures changed other than the 87%. The fuel consumption and speed all made sense but maybe the Sat Nav isn't getting some data it needs.

Side of unit. No idea what all the stamps are about.

Slot in dash unit goes in.

Everything looks fine really and ill refit the unit later or tomorrow and see if Sat nav is back.

Also managed to work out that one of the Tweeters is broken after swapping them round. Car has Bose are the tweeters something special or will any Omega tweeter do? I have a door from a front passenger door from an 99 Omega CDX that just happens to be laying around any chance the tweeter behind the Wing mirror cover will work?

How easy is it to remove the GID. I am thinking if the fault is with the HU then ill need to swap both and then I might have a cunning plan for an upgrade to a CID.

@Mowerzilla
I was a little surprised to read your initial comment about the aerial, unless the estate is different but the Omega saloon uses the Heated Rear Window for the antenna.

Nope .. heated rear screen is the RADIO aerial .. the little stubby thing on the roof is the satnav antenna
What you smoking Entwood?

On saloons, radio aerial is HRW, on estates its the aerial at the back of the roof.

I was replying to the highlighted bit ... that you have just agreed with !!
Eh?

Tell you what, lets sort it out like real men, in a field, tomorrow night ;D. You bring a wee dram for the winner ;D :y :y

(I've re-read a load of times, but too tired to concentrate enough - I've already been confuddled by chrisgixer in a PM, so clearly my brain is mush ;D)

OK .. but some homework for you first ... just to prepare you for the "conflict" .... (probably turn your brain to even more mush .. but a wee dram or three will soon fix that :) )

1. Thread title is Sat Nav
2. Mowerzilla posts that the saloon uses the HRW as antenna (implication .. satnav antenna)
3. I say no, HRW is radio not satnav
4. You state exactly the same thing .. with a question on my inhaling habits ... :)
5. I agree with you for the second time
6. Mowerzilla now agrees with both of us

Conclusion .. we are arguing about how to agree !! (ain't life grand !!   :)  )

Now .. where did I put that dram ....   :)
So we both win? Best get a pair of drams then, my Pikey Pensioner friend ;)

Always remember it is impossible to talk about omega radio aerials with or without antennas in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood.

Today I had a look at the sat nav system again. Tried to remove it with unapproved tools but ultimately Head Unit 1 Human 0. Couldn't get much of a grip on it other than the flimsy plastic front. Will look into the hook method the CD Flap fell off so its a start I guess. Ill have to get some proper 2 din tools or resort to removing the front dash trim if I have to.
The BC seems to give reliable information like avg speed, instant fuel consumption and average fuel economy of 24mpg though not the answer I would like to see it is probably the truth. Ill reset these for the next trip and see what they read also there is a Diagnostic screen for the BC ill get a pic of might indicate a problem.

Yes I held down the clear button till the unit switched off. Switched on again and the GPS icon was in Yellow Box black text then changes to GPS in Yellow text still not giving nav instructions but it updated it location to the car park is was. I have disconnected the battery for a few days with a wire to short across the disconnected car battery terminals.

Only thing I haven't done yet is removed the head unit need to get some keys for it as I don't have a kit for 2 DIN head units.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Satnav or Sat Nav problem NCDC 2013
« on: 02 September 2014, 23:19:35 »
Hi had a look through the forum and its helped a bit but I am stuck getting the Satnav to work.

My car is a 2001 Omega 3.2 elite estate with an NCDC 2013 headunit and the GID unit.
Problem is the sat nav is stuck on a location and wont update that location while driving. Consequently it doesn't do any navigation and just shows the compass arrow in the direction of the destination where I was parked. I did have the Sat Nav working and giving directions prior to removing the Aerial for repairs.

I got the unit to show some diagnostic screens hold down Main for 6 secs. Also tried holding down Clear to do a reset and tried a 2006 disc to update from my 2004.
I have also tested the top slot and it plays audio CDs fine and installed the 2006 navteq CD fine.
I recently repaired the aerial and checked the connections in the roof but not looked behind the kick panel or HU.
The Aerial mast had come loose and damaged some soldering connections so re soldered them and refitted a new mast on a short wire making good the base. FM reception is now ok on classic FM (bit Hissy) and great on Radio1 and other Commerical Radio stations. The GPS receiver is a separate item in the aerial base so shouldn't have been effected and looked in good condition.

here are some pictures I took of the GID showing the diagnostics screen from the NAV mode.

This shows the GPS satellites I believe and it does seem to be getting longitude and latitude coordinates when driving they do change as expected. Is the H+0179 altitude?

Presume this is just serial numbers.

This I believe is the TMC which seems next to useless.

This just show the Sat nav should be working as the GPS is in Yellow text. When unplugged it was in black text in a yellow box.

One Photo I realise I haven't taken is one of the Satnav just showing the compass instead of the giving street directions.

I can get more pics or info as needed.
If anyone has any ideas or help I just don't understand why it seems to be getting GPS data but can't navigate or update its location.

There are a few other small problems with the car like the left wing mirror cant be electrically adjusted I have had it working after unplugging the door electrical connectors half a dozen times and cleaning the contacts with carb cleaner but its been only briefly working.
Also the Tweeter on the drivers side door doesn't work and there is a quiet hiss from the speakers which doesn't change volume but does mute when the Head Unit volume is mute. I know these are small problems compared to the pain in the ass of replacing a DIS or exhaust studs that have broken but I just like everything to work properly as intended even with a Vauxhall Omega!

Hi have just bought a 3.2 elite estate. Driven twice once before buying and then the 30 mile drive home and so far so good it's got a few problems all so far just cosmetic or little electrical gremlins which shouldn't be to hard to sort out except the tailgate rust spot in the usual place under wiper pivot. It had belts done 30k ago but that was nearly 6 years so will get that sorted soon. Plus needs new brake discs and pads. Tyres are 4x Federal with fair bit tread left personally I like F1 though using some uni royal rain sport2 on my other omega 2.5. Passenger side wing mirror won't adjust and the rear view mirror is staying dark. Also the little flap on the centre console CD changer door is loose one side, are they hard to get or repair?

Will give it oil and filters change soon also needs new sparks. Hopefully will keep/get this car in good condition for many years with just a few mods like cotton panel filter and an SS powerflow exhaust when the current one crumbles. Will sort out some pics too once wash and wax it.
