OK after speaking to Vauxhall I managed to get past the problem I had quite simply.

For anyone having a similar problem or chaiging their battery this winter, the route to success it seems is to have the ingnition on ,in the second position ( warning lights illuminated), during the waiting period.

I had put the ignition on and waited 3 hours for the set to come out of SAFE..... but it needs to be in the second position !

Simple really .... when you are told !

Hi The Boy   thanks for the suggestion .... however I have tried switching the set on to redo the radio by pressing the autostore button while switching on  and it illuminates the display  with "  7 SAFE"   this I presume means it is in delay mode and I have 7 attempts left . I have left the radio on for over 3 hours waiting for it to show   7   - - - -  so that I can re enter the code but it remains " 7 SAFE " all the time .

Changed the battery in my Omega V6   Radio came up code and I entered the code fine.  Then the CD was acting the ar$e so I switched off and on using the darn same proceedure as Radio code entry with the CD code !   Now the pigging thing is showing   "7 SAFE" on radio and just safe on CDwhen I switch on with the CD button pressed.   I have left the unit on with ignitipon on for several hours and nothing changes !      SHould I take off the battery again and then wait a while to let it rest and then try again ?

HELP !!

I tried to enter the post code as suggested but I found that my old style system wont accept anything like that. If you start an entry that is not a " Name "  and has characters  like SS at the start it blanks out the second "S" in the selection. Pity the darn Map disks are so expensive as many of the new roads in this area are not shown ........ the A13 into London for example makes the system think your 4x4 in a farm field !

OK rather than start a new thread I will add my interest to this topic. My "S" Reg has the Carin and is still the original disk and system...... only accepts road input. If there are any updates/upgrades I can make to this to allow postcode and newer road mapping I am interested to hear.

I've had this on a past 2.5 V6 and was told by a mechanic friend that the cars are known for it ........ seems that the exhaust manifold is known to slightly miss form ( warp) and then begins to blow the gaskets . When it warms up the expansion of the metals hides the gap and all is well,  it was also suggested that replacing the gasket is only a temporary fix.

After the advice my good old 3.0 V6 went in for the crank sensor change and now seems to have got past the initial problems. Bear in mind we are talking new fuel pums, new pump relay, new fuel filter, new spark plugs and now crank sensor.     Yet when I start her after stanging she still wont fire first turn as she always did in the past ......

On the first turn it still sounds dry , and then on the second a slight spltter and she is off.   No loss of power or other indication of error.

Anyone have any ideas why ?

OK enough guys tell you the same thing I guess even an old fool like me has to be convinced !

That sensor is HISTORY ....... I am all over the country tomorrow ( the other car ) so I shall see about sorting it in a day or so .

May I just say as a newbie    what a great gang of Omega nuts you are , its amazing to be able to tap into such practical knowledge and experience. :y

Thanks for that , it amazes me that the ECU is not designed to recognise and record ignition faults ..... and having stored them spew out warning at the next successful start. Oh well GM foods are banned perhaps their logic should be too :)

SO guess I better find out how much this little wonder circuit is going to cost :(

Omega General Help / Re: Problems

Because of the uncertainty of the 3-1 result, and the comments in the instructions for the clip test which state that 3 -1 is common on V6 when the engine is not running ..... I popped the car over to the local garage and they fixed it up to their tester . They confirmed that no engine management light would suggest no error , and on their screen the received no errors ! So , where on earth does this leave us, sure I can change the Crank Sensor but it makes me wonder why there is no error on their tester and why no management light is illuminated .

Any ideas about these queries ?

OK I have done the Paperclip test and all I got was 2-1  and 3 -1  which I presume are reporting that the game had begun and that the engine revs were "0" . All it did was repeat these sequences x 3 and then return. Checked with my cheepo volt meter the voltage cross the battery when off and it reported 12.5  to 13 volts  ( see told you it was a crappy meter.) (rapitest) .

Thank you for your reply and the suggestions .... just to make clear the error process in the Omega, is it possible to have error codes stored without the engine management light staying on to indicate that an error has been stored ? Mine remains off at all times other than initial start-up.

Omega General Help / Problems
« on: 10 September 2007, 10:33:38 »
A while back my 3.0V6 "S" Reg started to give problems starting. I even managed to use all the battery trying to get it to fire. There is no indicator on the dash to suggest engine management warning ...and so far it has recently had new plugs, filters, etc. The fuel pump relay has been replaced as has the pump.  Yet the old sod continues to play up, sometimes starting OK and other times needing jumping after dropping the battery to below turnover.

It has never been a problem once up and running and this makes me ask.......  is t possible that a dud battery will posses enough to turn the engine over but not enough to fire the system up ?
After several tries t fire her up and running the battery down the AA man has turned up, connected his battery thing and it fires right off. I have then driven it to the garage and it has been there overnight, starting OK every time they try and again without problems in the morning ! >:(

Any ideas of where I should look next ?
