Omega General Help / Non revving 2.5td
« on: 18 February 2008, 12:14:22 »
Hi there,
A few months ago I sought help for my recently acquired 2.5td Omega Elite which wouldn't rev much above 3,000 rpm. I got loads of help none of which helped, and I called out a local mobile tuner which didn't help either. But I have recently solved the problem and thought it might be of use to others, although the circumstances may be quite unusual. I will also sing the praises of the Bosch guy in Dundee who solved the problem.
I took the car along to him the other day and just by looking at the pump he offered a likely explanation (incredible!) and more incredibly had the second hand part to solve it.
To explain, before I acquired the car it had the fuel pump replaced. Instead of having the correct overflow valve fitted this pump simply had a banjo bolt fitted which the Bosch guy spotted and suggested that was the problem. He also produced a second hand valve which he suggested I fit and see if that solved the problem. This I did and after only a couple of hours and several scraped and bruised knuckles, they like to make 'em inaccessible don't they! the new valve was fitted and now the engine revs like it was meant to. I guess, not being technical, that the hole in the banjo valve being too large, the pump was not being pressurised correctly??
Anyway the problem solved and I am in awe of a guy who can spot a problem so quickly - and the valve and his advice only cost me £10.
Hope this might help others.
Slainte!
John :)

So you have checked all the inlet piping then?
There's no many bits of plumbing! Wouldn't the diagnostic chap have noticed loose or missing pipes - or am I just being naive?

well apart from the title anyone know what it is or isnt doing? does it tickover but not rev when pedal pressed? does it not pull under load? have i missed somthing, or what???
Onegatoy
Hi, sorry I had an earlier post - it revs up to about 3,500 -3,700 when not under load and to about 3,000 - 3,100 when driving gets up to that no bother but won't go any higher - a pain in the arse as the auto box keeps dropping to a lower gear. A previous owner reckoned it may have the wrong fuel pump. I've had it diagnosed and he could find no fault.

Hi
What year is the car? I seem to have the same problem with my 2.5td at the moment but my car is a 95 vintage. Mine does not appear to be maturing gracefully!!!

Try looking under the pellum ( not sure of spelling) chamber - the large aluminium air intake that sits on the RHS of the engine. Between the underside of the second and third air intakes there is a sensor - unclip the electrical socket and try the engine again to see if that makes a difference. Leave the sensor in the casting. I believe it is an air intake temperature sensor. Let me know if there is any change - it certainly made a difference to mine!!!
Hi CF Mine is a 96 so I'll have a look. I think the word you're looking for is plenum which broadly is a space to allow air circulation. I'll let you know.

Is it smoking a lot either at idle, or when booting it?
No

Hi,
I've diesel magiced it, as per the boy, I've checked the fuel filter for water - none. I've had it diagnosed - nothing showing. Looking under the bonnet I notice an electrical connection to the battery, blue that runs to a 15 amp fuse near a box with ZF on it. I'll replacethat soon as I get a connector. Also looking in the fuse box thingy under the bonnet I notice that no 1 relay is missing - maybe its supposed to be. Does anyone know what its for? A stupid question - of course somebody knows. It goes into a purplish connection. The car is a 96 2.5 td elite estate.
Thanks, john
As for missing relay, see relay box layout posts in Tecnical Information section.

Is the pipe from the bottom of the inlet to the boost pressure switch OK?
Yes i think the guy who did the diagnosis fouind a propblem with this but sorted it and made no difference.
According to Mrk DTM Calib its a test connector.

I'm not sure if this is the correct way to respond. Thanks to The Boy for the advice. I unscrewed the nut from the bottom of the filter - there would be water in there if that's the problem? Haven't got the diesel magic yet. I'm just a bit wary off taking things off in case it stops the whole shooting match. To add it do I just undo the big screw on the top of the filter? Also the water bottle sensor. Of course the water bottle would be hidden deep in the bowels. I took the front grill off. I take it the cylindrical thingy to the left with the electrical attachments and a water cover thingy is a motor. I felt to the right hand side and thought I could feel an electrical connection is that the sensor and is it simply a case of pulling it off - if you know what I mean!

Omega General Help / 2.5td omega elite estate won't rev
« on: 13 September 2007, 15:54:25 »
Hi there, I'm brand new , been recommended this sight by phate???. I just bought a '96 2.5td elite estate which I drove from Gloucester up to my home near Dundee. The guy I bought it from said it had been sitting for a few months (try a year and a half!) and that he had put contaminated diesel in it which had destroyed the fuel pump. As repair was going to cost over £600 he bought another one off ebay. But he thinks it is the wrong one. With no load the car will rev to about 3700 and on load to about 3100. So it was interesting to say the least coming up the road. But to be fair the car ran like a dream apart from that, with the only problem I could see being the warning for the windscreen fluid which  doesn't go out even now I've topped it up. A friend suggested the problem might be a sensor, I forget what he called it near the top of the pump, but I disconnected it and it ran the same. Anyone any ideas? Sorry that I've been so long winded!
